I am thinking of doing a Wellbutrin Xl alone or with a combo. Last time I tried it, I remember not feeling good at all, but it was only a day or two and I was taking other meds. Very sensitive to light and headache almost like a drug withdrawal. And feeling like on a drug (and not a good way), and almost like I was being more susceptible to a seizure. Does this go away dramatically, or is Wellbutrin just not usually a well tolerated drug?

I was on wellbutrin XL 150mgs for about three and a half weeks before I couldn't take it anymore. It made me extremely paranoid (which I never had before) and increased my anxiety a buttload. I was also on lamictal 50mgs at the time for bipolar II, so I may have reacted different than is usual.
That being said, Wellbutrin XL is called an "atypical" antidepressant because it works on the dopamine and norepinephrine (adrenaline) receptors in your brain, unlike most other antidepressants that work on serotonin. Part of the AD game is figuring out which chemicals are causing the problem.
I know a handful of people who have taken Wellbutrin, but none that stayed on it long. It seems that most people can't tolerate the norepinephrine effects, which, among other things, can cause increased aggression and anxiety. I suppose for some people it works, or there wouldn't still be a market for it, but in my experience and from what my pdoc tells me, it's generally not well-tolerated.
