Zoloft for an antidepressent effect? I really don't see myself coming off of the paxil anytime soon. I tried for two weeks to go to 7.5mg. from 10mg. and it was pretty horrible. If I knew this would pass and I would get stable again, I'd continue but to not know how long or if I would feel stable at all isn't an option. Paxil has it's grip on my very tightly unfortunately.
Any ideas?Thanks,
Laney

I left a message saying that I wanted to try Nortriptyline in addition to the paxil and/or sertraline. He hasn't gotten back to me. I've been in touch with Dr. Gillman from Australia and he really thinks this will do it. But to get a doctor to see things his way?? I'm still taking the sertraline 100mg. and the paxil 10mg. I tried to cut back to 7.5mg. of paxil but the withdrawl was too hard even at that and I want to feel better not worse. THanks for asking? How are you??

I replied (yesterday) to you babblemail asking about clomipramine + Paxil, which I would not recommend. Did you receive my message?
Due to its various drug interactions, certain meds should not be combined with Paxil.
If you wanted to combine nortriptyline with Paxil, a very low starting dose of nortriptyline would be appropriate.
Mirtazapine (Remeron) can be combined with Paxil. Have you tried it?

No, I have not tried Mirt. What is it like? What side effects?
Thanks Ed,
Laney
Yes, I do get your responses and thank you.

Mirtazapine is particularly useful for depression where insomnia is a problem. It is quite sedating when taken at night. Some drowsiness may persist the following day, especially at first. It may have some efficacy in anxiety as well as depression. The most unpopular side effect is weight gain. It's a useful drug to combine with SSRIs because there does not appear to be an interaction.
Mirtazapine has a different mechanism of action to SSRIs. Because of this, it can be useful when SSRIs haven't worked.

Laney you can't up the dose of the paxil? What are your symptoms of depression? Sorry if asked before. Phillipa
