Hia, I am bipolar (2) and currently take Lamictal and Celexa..
I dislike the Celexa, a lot.. I have no sex drive, don't express myself creatively anymore, and experience a general numbness.
I have heard of people using Adderall and Lamictal for BP, and was wondering if anyone has had any experience.
I am a college student and my Psychiatrist isn't keen on the issue of giving me controlled substances, so I wan't to build a case before I see her again.

I am Bipolar type 2 and I take both Lamictal and Celexa. I can vouch for lower libido and a little less creativity, but i don't think it is a deal breaker in my case. Those are very common complaints with anyone who takes psychotropic medications. Oddly enough Celexa is thought to be one of the least intrusive SSRI's in regards to side effects. I certainly am willing to work a little harder in those areas in exchange for the stability and clarity the meds bring. How long have you been taking that cocktail and what are your doses? Are you taking any other drugs? Can you still reach climax in the bedroom or are you totally shot?
Adderall could be flirting with fire. I've been tempted with stimulants too, but if i were taking Adderall during a mixed or manic episode i would be insane!
Have you considered other outlets for your creativity such as a blog or a new craft?

Welcome to Psycho-Babble! Loss of sex drive/function and apathy are common side effects of SSRI's. I haven't heard of Adderall for bipolar, but maybe someone else has. I've read that Wellbutrin is often used when there are sexual side effects.
I don't know how well Wellbutrin treats bipolar though.

I take 40mg/d celexa and 200mg/d Lamictal
it is definitely the best mix I have been on, and it manages the mood swings fairly well.. I am just looking for an alternative to an SSRI

most doctors don't mind giving out bupropion, which is sort of a weak stimulant
