I've noticed that when I'm sick with influenza, the common cold or any other illness that produces fever or malaise, that diazepam (Valium) or other benzodiazepines help a lot with the symptoms.
Why is that?
Is it because it offers some help to the immune system or is it because it simply "covers up" the symptoms or makes them more tolerable since you are sedated?
When I have fever and take enough diazepam, my fever comes down. I've tried googling about "diazepam+antipyretic" and came up with nothing suggesting diazepam can lower a fever. I only found information about diazepam preventing or stopping febrile seizures. After taking diazepam, my wife can feel my forehead and definitely notices it lowers my fever rather quickly, especially with high doses like 10 or 15mg.
Explanation?

Not really related, but one day I had cramps so bad I was ready to go to the ER. Ibuprophin & acetamenaphine (sp?) didn't touch it. But then a "miracle" happened after I took some xanax. The pain was eased & fell into a relaxing sleep. When I woke up, I was still releaved from my misery.
This is the end of the thread.
