Beconase nasal spray + MAOI

Posted by pedr on April 17, 2010, at 23:10:12

Hi gang,
can someone tell me if this spray is OK to use whilst taking Nardil? I found the ingredients:

* The active substance is beclometasone dipropionate.
* The other ingredients are microcrystalline cellulose, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, dextrose, polysorbate 80, purified water and the preservatives benzalkonium chloride and phenylethylalcohol. These other ingredients are needed to make a stable suspension which will not go off.

but can't find the "contraindicated/avoid" list.
TIA,
Pete

Beconase is fine with MAOIs. It is a steroid, not a decongestant. It is the decongestants that you have to beware of.

thanks guys. I think Ed's right, it's the decongestants that are of concern, not steroidal stuff.
Cheers,
Pete

Yeah, Beconase is fine. You can also use non-sedating antihistamines if needed eg. loratadine. Check the ingredients very carefully before taking anything because some tablets contain combinations of antihistamines with decongestants.
