Alternatives to help sleep while taking parnate?

Posted by lewyfly on April 6, 2010, at 17:26:37

I have been taking parnate for about 7/8 weeks now and have gotten the doseage up to 40mgs. The doc prescribed seroquel to help me sleep. It seems the seroquel does not agree with me, i tried a very low dose of 1/4 of 25mg tab for 4 nights and each day I had a hungover feeling and felt vey tired and irritable through the day.

In the short term I taking 0.5mg lorazepam before bed to help with sleep.

What suggestions are there for something that may help with sleep but doesn't have the after effects and my also help with my depression/anxiety?

Thanks in advance.

I had parnate insomnia. I now take 12mg trilafon (perphenazine - an old AP) and 1mg lorazapem and sleep like a baby.

Do you think the AP helps with your depression as well as well sleep? Is there an issue in taking the lorazepam long term? Addiction?

Personally I've been on benzos for 40 years and they never escalated so what if you take a benzo and it works. Sleep is so important. Would it work now safer to me than atypical. But that's just me. Phillipa

thanks for the thread lewyfly-- came here to post just the same myself, except seroquel used to work great for me until I broke my "once you go off it, it won't work ever again" rule and became resistant.

emmanuel-- do you know of any reason trilafon won't work with ambien? I take that and it works for me, just not enough to compete with the stimulant effect i get from parnate.

I started on the trilafon when I was in the hospital washing out for the parnate, so I just stayed on a low dose to help me sleep at night. I tried seroquel for a while too, but had such trouble waking in the morning -- needed to set two alarms to get out of bed. The lorazapem puts me to sleep and I'm wide awake at 7:00AM. I don't worry about it being addictive. I just take 1mg at night. My p-doc worries though.

Thanks for responding guys, spoke to my p doc today and she said just stick to the lorazepam for a few more week and see if the parnate improves my mood.

By the way, been on 40mgs for 5 days but for some reason my mood has really crashed in the last few days.

I feel alot worse now than i did a week ago, anyone else had this type of thing happen?

I'm taking 8mg of perphenazine and 2mg ativan and sleep like a baby for 7 hours. The problem is that I need 9 hours of sleep (have my whole life) or I get sick. Any suggestions for making me sleep longer?
