TRD

Posted by Laney on February 2, 2010, at 10:36:00

Is this site mainly for TRD? Just curious. I've only ever been on one AD and that's paxil and haven't tried anything else except for the past two weeks Lamictal which I'm not sure why because I'm definitely not BP.

Thanks! Laney

I think many ppl here are TRD. If paxil doesn't work it doesn't make you treatment resistant. Your doc will probably prescribe another SSRI or a SNRI next. Don't worry about whether you are resistant or not.

Actually, I wouldn't recommend reading the forum too much because it can make you feel like many of the drugs out there won't work for you. Most ppl I know in real life, who take psych drugs, react nothing like the people here.

You mean I'm not the only one as the people in real life I know also don't react like a lot on this board. I've mentioned before that the header of the page says nothing about this being for TRD. Glad I'm not the only one. Phillipa

It seems that the people here at probably in the bottom 25% of people who respond to initial medications. Some of us respond to other treatment options, such as specific combinations. Don't worry about TRD, odds are that you will not be.

The way it worked for me is I ended up here because I was desperate. I mean, think about it-- most people who try a couple meds and find one that works are less likely to be searching the internet for a resource like this than people who have a med list longer than their arm. Or course, I'm sure there are exceptions (people just interested in meds, etc.), but I don't think we represent a normal bell curve anyway. As for diagnoses, there is everything from TRD to bipolar to anxiety to ADHD and others.

OK we'll try this again. For some reason my original post didn't go through.

I know there are a lot of posters here with TRD and some of the posts most certainly would seem scary to a newcomer to the wonderful world of psych meds, however, I would hate to see someone not stay and become a part of the babble family because they have only been on one AD.

I don't know why your doc put you on your current med. I learned a long time ago that you have to be your own advocate dealing with doctors of any type, so don't feel intimidated to ask your him why he is recommending any med. It's your body you're putting it into to and you have a right to know as much as you can about that med.

I hope you continue to post..you'll learn a lot from posters here and we in turn will learn a lot from you too.

I would absolutely second what justherself said-- I would want everyone to stay whether they've been on 1 drug or 30 drugs-- everyone has their own unique knowledge and perspectives to offer
