Hi,
Im on a low dose of flupenthixol for the agitation and anxiety induced by Wellbutrin.
Ive been on Buspar for many years, but this drug doesnt seem to be potent enough in combination with Wellbutrin.Im doing fine, but flupenthixol is not a modern drug.
This medicine increases the level of prolactin. So I would like to switch from flupenthixol to a modern drug.
I know that Seroquel is used off-label for personality disorders. The question is whether 25 mg of Seroquel in the morning would take care of my anxiety for the rest of the day.
I have Seroquel in my medicine cabinet, but I dont have a qualified psychiatrist to consult on this matter.Would 25 mg of quetiapine be equivalent of 1 mg of flupenthixol?
Best regards,
X-rayWellbutrin 150 mg
Remeron 45 mg
Lyrica 25 mg
Flupenthixol 1 mg
Buspar 30 mg

Hi Phillipa,
You are right about Lyrica.
This drug is good for anxiety. But I'm on Lyrica in the evening for sleep.
I don't want to take this drug in the daytime.Seroquel is a popular sleep aid in the U.S.
But 25 mg of this drug is a very low dose.So I don't think that 25 mg of Seroquel will make me tired.
From The Carlat Psychiatry Report, Medication Fact Book:
Seroquel: In off-label use in personality disorders,
dosing often stabilizes at the 25 mg BID-QID range.Best regards,
X-ray

I think you should give it a try at 25 mg. I used to take Seroquel for anxiety but I was also taking it as a mood stabiliser. It really helped my anxiety. In fact I came off of 4 mg of klonopin and straight onto 200mg of Seroquel.

Actually the lower the dosage of Seroquel the more sedating it is. You may need to take about 200 mg for anxiety. But do start at 25 mg.

How long have you been on Wellbutrin? If you've been on it for a while and it is the only thing you think will help with your depression, it may be worth it to try something like zyprexa or seroquel. Otherwise, I would not bother with taking and antipsychotic. Instead, I would try to find a better antidepressant without the agitation.
If you are just experiencing agitation because you are still adjusting to the recent introduction of wellbutrin to your system, I definitely would NOT take an antipsychotic. In this case you need to just give it time and see if the agitation goes away.
I'm sure supplements/herbs are not powerful enough to quell your agitation but you could try them anyway. Some that have been suggested to me and I already knew about and tried are:
Magnesium-may have also helped me with sleep.
Glycine-may have helped with sleep
GABA-works pretty well from my experience
Theanine0-calming but also activating from my experience
Ashwagandha-calming and energizing
Bacopa-this may improve your cognition and treat
your anxietyI would also take klonopin before taking seroquel or zyprexa.
So I guess Lyrica isn't good enough for your agitation. Maybe a higher dose would help?
How long do you think you would have to take the flupenthixol? If it is short term, why not stick with it until the agitation from wellbutrin is gone.
You know, there are some people on this board that believe Nortriptyline to be superior to Wellbutrin. It is something to seriously consider.

Hi,
Thanks for your input!
Ive been on Wellbutrin for six weeks. I really dont take this drug for depression.
I have always been tired, but this drug has given me a lot of energy.
Wellbutrin and Remeron is a great combination of drugs.I doubt that the agitation induced by Wellbutrin will go away.
This side effect tends to stick around from what I have read.
But Im going to make another try without flupenthixol.I will need medicine for the rest of my life, but Im not sure about flupenthixol.
I only take 1 mg/day of this drug, which is a very small dose. So it cant do much harm.I would never consider Klonopin myself, since this drug is a benzodiazepine.
I have had a problem to handle those drugs.Best regards,
X-ray
