klonopin not helping for anxiety

Posted by shakeyboy on November 30, 2009, at 17:57:53

Went to the H1NI vaccination clinic today.Stood in line with hundreds of people which gives me terrible anxiety and panic.I don't do well in crowds.Took 2mgs klonopin which is double my regular dose of 1mg.Did nothing for my anxiety.Thought I was going to die before I got out of there after a 2 hour wait.
Any suggestions on good anxiety meds would be apprecated.

I may have suggested this to you before, but I would recommend Thorazine/Largactil. It's very calming and not sedating. It's an old antipsychotic that was used during the war to relax soldiers before surgery. It was only later that they found out it was effective as an antipsychotic. I would start at 25 mg. It has a long half life. I was taking up to 100 mg at one point. I really recommend it. I know a lot of pdocs don't like to prescribe it because it's "old". But it works!

I think I'd recommend as needed xanax for times like you experienced today. And no after all the years of taking it never craved it or got high just normal. Phillipa

I think it's best to stay away from benzos if possible because they are so addicting. That's just my opinion. That's why I like the idea of using Thorazine.

Lyrica, Gabitril and Gabapentin are superior anti-anxiety medications.

Hi Phillipa,

So are you saying that the benzos are no longer helping you. What would you do if you did stop the benzos? Do you have any other options?

Denise

Hi shakeyboy,
You take the Rivotril since how many time?

I'm on 8mg/day now and it's not helping me anymore, so don't be worried about it...

Benzos meds tend to work very well the first month and after they stop working and then you entering into the bad circle of addiction and the increasing dosage, increasing who never stop...

Those small pills are addictive... physically and mentally also... Try to go somewhere without having on you your bottle of Rivotril pills??? You will see what I mean !!!

For the person who write to you that the Lyrica, or Neurontin are more effective... that's not true!!!

Those meds, have a more analgesic action than anything else. You will feel pins and needles effect all over your body... but they don't work very well for the anxiety, on me... maybe they work on other peoples... but I try to avoid them...

The Gabatrl seem to be a good solution... work on the Gaba-A encheancing... like the Benzos meds are doing... and another product exist also who is call "Sabril" (Vigabatrin), only avaible in the Canada... that med work on the Gaba-T...kills them and make more gaba avaible in the brains... they are anti-seizure meds and for the Sabril, I test it for a couple of days... didn't had enought time to do a proper trail of it... but apparently, it's good to prevent the panic attacks and decrease the anxiety in general...

For the Xanax... I find it to be the most addictive benzos med. If the Rivotril don't work on you, I would avoid to try it, since it have a ver short half-life, you will just increase and increase the dosage and became addicted more faster than light!!! That's my experience... and when you have to stop it it's a nightmare... It took 2 months for me to withdraws FASTER the Xanax... I was at 12mg/day... Was not able to speak, like I had a patatoes in the mouth, had terrible loose of memory, muscles cramps and spasm, shaky hands, migraine, rebound anxiety... and trust me, that's not funny... 2 months looking like an idiot...

Anyway... I think that antidepressant pills are better for a long-term use... you just have to find the good one and that's difficult sometimes...

So hope you are doing well today !!! ;-)

Bye!

Vincent ;-)

Denise still taking them after 40 years my brain needs them or chemistry changing for me as take less and less. Who knows may be off without even trying. For me I never took higher doses of benzos and got over 37 years of great response from low doses. The pdoc sometimes would say take more I never did why if what I was taking worked? So never escalated my dose. Highest was 2mg of xanax a day. Now down to lmg xanax and 7mg of valium at sleep. Love Phillipa
