Groundbreaking documentary on depression

Posted by rovers95 on November 26, 2009, at 11:21:37

Dont know if u can watch BBC iplayer out of the UK but this documentary on depression within appeared on BBC one (probably the UK's most watched channel) last night.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00p6r0m/Inside_Sport_Mind_Games_Depression_in_Sport/

The documentary was produced in the light of the suicide of German international goalkeeper Robert Enke, hopefully this documentary will go someway as to removing some of the stigma attatched to depression and other mental illness, especially in the "macho" environment of the sporting arena.

Ok, maybe groundbreaking was a bit dramatic....but as someone who plays a predominantly male sport (when i can now) and partakes in the dressing room banter that is part and parcel of it, i hope this documentary may remove some of the stigma and make people recognise that this is a serious illness.
