Wellbutrin good for replacing stimulant's

Posted by rjlockhart04-08 on November 5, 2009, at 20:00:41

Hello babble,

Just wanted to write this, wellbutrin is diffrent from other antidepressant's because it actself as a indirect stimulant, yet far less potency than Ritilin or Dexedrine. It provides similar feelings because of the uptake of dopamine and NE.

It' more better for depression because it's effect's on mood are better than cognitive stuff that Ritilin/Adderall provide because it's far less weaker.

Just thought i'd share. At least it's better than nothing.

Yes, I quite like it. Especially since I cannot tolerate ritalin- it makes me really aggressive..

I am so glad you have found something that works for you that isn't really a stimulant. Congrats!

Sorry to keep asking this on the forum, but is this brand or generic wellbutrin?

I once did a wellbutrin trial up to at least 400 milligrams. It just made me feel irritable like to much epinephrine. Didn't help my mood either. I think wellbutrin's dopamine reuptake is actually very weak. I have a feeling it acts much more on norepinephrine.

Bulldog2, this was my feeling also. I felt jumpy like I was in fight or flight mode all the time. All my motions were quick and jerky, luckily there was no psychological or physical anxiety with this, my body was just wound up. Also I felt no mood lift. Studies in different mammals have shown some or no Dopaminergic activity with wellbutrin. I was thinking it was just the crappy Teva generics, but maybe wellbutrin isn't the drug for me. After all if it were very dopaminergic it would probably be scheduled in the US.

Okay I admit I thought wellbutrin was dopamine? I've taken snri's and was okay. So what meds have dopamine? Thanks Phillipa

I know how dopamine feels from times when I tried true stims which really hit dopamine..I don't know why p-doc keep saying wellbutrin is a dopamine drug.if you read drug manuals they say it's action is WEAK dopamine reuptake..The other actions of wellbutrin seem to be unknown..I also tried strong norepinephrine drugs and wellbutrin didn't even feel like them...For me had a bit of the to much adrenalin feeling...
Maybe emsam or selegiline with phenylalanine might be better replacements. Selegiline (10 mg) with l-phenylalanine (250-500 mg) was pretty speedy..

Yes...it's less direct on the uptake, it's more for antidepressant stimulanting properties than psychostimulant potency. Zoloft Believe it or not is a dopamine reuptake inhibitor but that's passed the recommended dose, 200mg.

Thanks

thanks.....

Well just gotta look to the good side of things, now I do take Nuvigel which is basically like Provigel without NE stimulation, it only provides wakefulness. Yet i've taken it almost every morning and go back to bed. That's wierd, the wellbutrin is kinda helps with ciggarettes, and making things a "little" more intresting than before, some concentration is improved where I'll feel "focused" on doing something, yet it doesnt have the near potency as methyphenidate or amphetamine.

Thanks appriciate the reponse.

the last time I took it, it had more "adrenal" effect's, now it's just some aspect's are just better in "well-being" feeling.

Zyprexa cancels out the anxiety, also Clonodine is good.

A 2nd trial of Wellbrutrin did not work for me as a substitute for Ritalin / Dexedrine / Adderall. It's not approved for ADD/ADHD.

So, I had 2 stop Wellbutrin (from my pdoc) and restart Ritalin (from my PCP). I plan to ask my PCP about giving Adderall another shot. The pdoc I have doesn't have the freedom choose from ADD/ADHD approved meds.

In this way the Community Services Board fails totally.
