Abilify is my favorite antipsychotic so far, but it gives me some bad side effects. I have schizophrenia, which is associated with problems regulating body temperature [i figured this out through pubmed]. Abilify makes the temperature regulation even worse (i get really hot), so i need to try a new med.
The reason i like abilify so much is:
1. No weight gain
2. I can wake up early and feel alert and motivated
3. I don't have to go to bed early because of sedation
4. I can socialize and have fun
5. It improves my concentrationI will still continue taking abilify if i need it, but i am thinking of trying either Geodon or Solian (i live in europe so solian is approved). I am considering these drugs because they are not associated with weight gain. http://fatnews.com/index.php/weblog/comments/1654/
It's hard to find any info on Geodon, so i am very unsure about it. There seems to be lot more info about solian. Solian seems to be pretty similar to abilify, except that it increases prolactin and helps with anxiety.
I am not interested in any drugs associated with weight gain.

Hi,
I can share my very PERSONAL experience with Geodon. I have tried abilify for a short time and also taken Geodon for nearly 2 years.I am aware about what the literature says about Geodon (which incidentally is my favorite drug) but I had my own experiences on it.
Geodon DID actually cause weight gain for me. A significant amount.
It was really sedating. A few hours after taking it, I would become comatose so I took it all at night. I could not wake up in the morning without 200mg Provigil.Abilify, I took in the day with no problem (and no stimulants!) I didn't take it for long enough to find out about the weight issue, though. But it had little effect on me so I gave it up.
Anyway this is totally my personal experience. We all have different chemistries so it may cause no weight gain or sedation for you.Good luck

From what i have read people react very differently to Geodon. I have read about those who experience sedation in the morning, while others don't have it. Abilify makes me really alert at all times of the day, so i guess Geodon is different on that point.
Solian has insomnia as a main side effect so it might be what i am looking for =). I like feeling awake.
That makes it Solian 1 Geodon 0.
