Ambien has duration of action of 4-6 hours, more like around 5 or so and Lunesta has duration of action of 6-8 hours.

the falling asleep process is different
ambien will take you quick if you stay in bed and read--don's mess with it was it has a window for entering sleep and if you resist it you will be awake with a headachelunesta is more subtle
for me that was not good
but some people preferthe best thing about lunesta is the lovely coor of the tablets--like a little blue moon

They work differently (don't ask me how). Lunesta worked for me--ambien turned me into a zombie.
