Bupropion at it's maximum effect's

Posted by rjlockhart04-08 on October 15, 2009, at 21:48:24

I'm taking the Generic Wellbutrin, I started it again, what would does anyone take it over 300mg? the reason and the main reason i have to take it, is for the replacement of stimulant, and I need it to increase, i've only been on it for 3 day's, will it increase dopamine? as Rililin does?

I know, that Zoloft passed 200mg creates a psychostimulant effect, but I don't take zoloft.

Does anyone here benefit from bupropion? dexamphetamine has alway's worked yet the doctor I see doesnt perfer stimulants.

Thanks

Dexamphetamine causes the release of dopamine from the neuron and also blocks its reuptake. It does this with norepinephrine as well but to a lesser degree.

Wellbutrin only blocks the reuptake of noradrenaline and dopamine. It does not cause the release of those chemicals. In my experience it feels like the effect is stronger with norepinephrine. I felt jumpy and energized but it didn't life my mood. Since it doesn't cause the release of dopamine it probably won't feel like dexamphetamine. Let me know if you feel the dopamine boost on a dose higher than 300mgs.

For what it's worth, I have found brand Wellbutrin XL much more effective that Budeprion XL or brand SR. And yes, it has a real stimulating effect. I have bad atypical (excessive sleeping, anhedonia, no motivation, etc.) features. It has helped.

right now i'm at 150mg, it's about 1:30am can't sleep, i notice a state diffrent, yet it's not releasing, it's just dopamine inhibition.

Thanks for the post!

I do realize the effect inhibit's the feeling to go smoke, because the feeling is already there. Dexamphetamine is diffrent....yet i understand why.

there some improved thinking, more "integrated" rather than "random", it feel a bit structured.

Dexamphetamine works totally diffrent, it has stimulanting properties and also helps with concentration in it's own way.

Sorry, I didn't find the post till today. My copay was no more when I had the PDoc rewrite for brand. Looking online I think the price is about 50% more. I would equate 450 generic to 300 brand, so may be worth it.
I have mild tinitus. Hard to say from what. Polypharmia makes side effects hard to track and tinitus is pretty low on my list of issues.

buproprion was only good a couple weeks after a dose increase for me.. then it would poop out on me. I went all the way up to 450mg and all it did was make me anxious as hell. No antidepressant effect, relief from sedation, or anything useful.
Some folks do well on it.
Personally Id stick with dexedrine for ADD. Wellbutrin or an NRI for sedation or depression. amphetamine if nothing else works, being careful of the dosage.

What was your experience on Budeprion SR? How much did you take and what did you notice if you remember? Have you tried brand SR or just brand XL?

The reason I ask is because I wonder if I would do better on the brand. I have anhedonia, memory and concentration problems, tired during mid day, sexual anhedonia, general low dopaminergic functioning.

I have tried generic sr, generic xl as budeprion - there's a new generic Aplenzin I haven't tried. I have had by far the best experience with Wellbutrin brand XL. Much better effect on mood and energy. I have taken up to 450 mg. I dropped to 150 when I added Concerta. I'm up to 300 now.
You mention: "I have anhedonia, memory and concentration problems, tired during mid day, sexual anhedonia, general low dopaminergic functioning. "

Thats quite a list. Are there any particular items on that list that help more than others? Can you feel any difference from the testosterone?

I might consider brand wellbutrin again. Hopefully it wouldn't make me feel tweaked and give me tremors like the generic.

It would be nice if amineptine were still available though. :/

Yeh, I know. Walking chem lab, blah blah. ;).

The testosterone and Pregnyl have been great for mood, energy, sex drive and body composition. The DIM helps control estrogen. I highly recommend the therapy for any male over 45-50. I started 4 years ago at 48 and physically feel great. Here is an in depth article a therapy protocol. http://www.allthingsmale.com/word_docs/TRT.doc

The thyroid greatly helps mood, and energy.

The concerta, wellbutrin, sertraline, memantine combo is for severe refractory depression. I'm getting better, but by no means well. I just added with sertraline with pindolol.

The pindolol is for both BP (lots of norepinephrine enhancement in the above drugs) as well as speeding onset of the sertarline. For what its worth, it's been 3 days and I feel better from the sert.

The supplements are to support mood, particularly energy and dopamine. The NAC is for mood stabilizing and possible soft bipolar. Everything there is supported by lots of studies.
