I would guess that Clomipramine would be a good choice as it works great for OCD, which, IMO, can be looked at as a form of psychotic depression when it's allowed to manifest.

Hi Jan,
I said OCD "may" be looked at as a "form" of psychotic depression when it's allowed to "manifest".
I believe the same could be said for a chronic, severe anxiety disorder if left untreated.
Also, remember that their are several variations and degrees when using the term "psychotic".
Take care,
Rick

I still take offense at this, I had a form of severe OCD in the past but its not something that someone who knows the DSM-IV (TR now) would classify in that spectrum at all.But anyhow we're mincing words, your re-clarification still leaves something to be desired but I'll leave it there.

>Agree that we are mincing words to a degree. Just as psychosis in patients has many degrees.

i had OCD once by lowering Seroquel from 400 mg to twice 100 mg
it was induced OCD disorder ... i wanted to wash my hands every second...
when i uppen my dose to 400 mg seroquel after 2 weeks it was completelly gone, when i quit the med at that time i had no serious psychosis, i was med free and OCD free
could this mean my OCD psychosis can help you guys? it's a theory...

> could this mean my OCD psychosis can help you guys? it's a theory...Hi Jereon,
I think you have a valid theory and should discuss it with your doctor at your next appointment. You have certainly struggled over the years and deserve a fair trial with a medication that might alleviate some of your symptoms. As mentioned earlier, you may experience some relief with clomipramine but, like you say, it's a "theory".

I answered this question as best as I could in your next thread. AFter doing some study on pubmed it became obvious that your condition is understudied, but that the meds that do work around the world provide you a small targeted toolbox to work with.
Antidepressants were used as monotherapy or in combination with antipsychotics.
Antidepressants were:
Luvox
Zoloft
Effexor
Imipramine
AmitriptylineAntipsychotics:
Risperdal
Seroquel
ZyprexaOf the SSRIs, Luvox seemed surprisingly effective, hypothetically due to its action at sigma receptors, which coincidentally zoloft does too.
ECT was viewed highly. I don't like that option, but it is an option.
From my own preference in combining both pharmaceutical and natural strategies in the war against disease, the one supplement I would seriously consider adding to whatever you do is Glycine. Long story, but there are just so many reports out there of this supplement helping schizophrenic patients of all kinds who are already on meds.

Amoxapine is the one drug close to a TCA which might be used for psychosis. But there are much better drugs for it (like the anti-psychotics).

I believe it's the only tricyclic with some D2 antagonism too, which theoretically could be useful against psychosis.
