Back on Paxil but feeling depressed this time

Posted by Johnny32 on October 23, 2009, at 10:18:18

Hello.
I stopped taking paxil for 2 months. Now I m back on it (3 days), but I am depressed. Does it take some time before kicking in after interruption, even if I was on it for 9 years?

Ty for reading.

Hi
Sorry hear that you are depressed.
What I feel is that 2 months is long enough for the depression to come back and for your neurotransmitters to have changed (for the worst).

So the fact that you have been on it for 9 years doesn't mean that it will act immediately.
The chemical changes will take time to happen and 3 days is just way too little time.

Sorry if I sound vague....am a bit out of it
But just wanted to say that I feel it is too early to see results. Hang on for at least 2 weeks to feel better.
Take care
D

I agree with Delna....after 2 months off you are almost like starting over.

Sorry you have not found immediate relief...but within 10 days to 2 weeks I will bet you feel better~

Keep posting..

Most definitely yes. And you may experience its effectiveness slightly different one way or another although that doesn't happen to a lot of people... and of course your brain chemistry changes around, its fluid -- so what is 9 years ago is not the same as today.

3 days though on a medication with such a short half life is not even enough really to even see side effects much.

It would take a good month for things to start showing something -- things don't work this fast in psychotropic medicine...

Johnny,

Why did you come off them? To give you my experience with Seroxat. I took Seroxat in my 20s and they worked wonderfully, I felt better than well.

I stopped taking them at the age of about 31/32 after the withdrawal symptoms went away I was fine (med free) for about 3 years and then all my symptoms came back but even worst than ever.

I started Seroxat again and went through horrendous anxiety and suicidal thoughts so stopped them. Tried lots of other meds over a two year period to no avail. Then tried higher dose Seroxat (40mg) and voila, after about 4 days started to feel much better. Took Seroxat for 2 years and then they seemed to stop working.

That was in 2005, since then tried adding lots of things to Seroxat (to no avail), have tried switching to other drugs to no avail. Have no come off everything (apart from a small amount of Zyprexa) in the hope that I give it 3 to 6 months (becomeing more like 3 months) then I can go on Seroxat and it might work again. I'm not sure what else to do.

Anyway, I'm sure you didn't really want to know any of the above but just bear in mind that you might need to go on a higher dose.

In my 20s I did come off Seroxat once or twice and it did take about 3 weeks for them to kick in again. However since hitting 35 my experience with antidepressants has never been the same.

This would be common. It takes at least 7-14 days for Paxil to reach steady state concentration in plasma. Potentially even longer for therapeutic effects to be felt.

Hang in there. It will likely begin to work soon.

Seldom.
