klonopin alternitives

Posted by sam K on September 20, 2009, at 11:51:45

I have some ocd issues and I find myself obsessing over the amnesia/memory problems I get from klonopin. Its a weird situation, but anyhow, there seems to be no alternitive to klonopin. Nothing matches its effect... not even close. My social anxiety/ocd traits are helped alot by it.

What about lyrica? Ive tried Gabapentin a few times and it makes me really angry. Do you think pregablin could have a chance comparing to klonopins effectivness for me? Ill ask my doctor about it but I dont know. If its related to gabapentin that much, IDK if it'll be that different.

Sam someone just posted that lyrica does help anxiety which is a type of OCD. You've tried xanax, ativan, valium? I didn't do well on klonopin either. Love Phillipa

I don't know if you've tried valium, it has a very long half life like klonopin and isn't quite as strong but it still might mess with your memory, maybe just not as badly. If you do this make sure your doc converts it properly to the right dose. Peace C

Valium has multiple metabolites, its actually has quite a long half life (Klonopin in some people can have as little as 16 hours), its main metabolite is very long, and its other two metabolites are temazepam (Restoril) and oxazepam (Serax).

It is a potent substance. But it has its use in high anxiety disorders as much as Klonopin does. Personally (when I could actually 'feel' benzodiazepines), Valium had a much greater 'zing' to it than Klonopin which was more subtle to me.

As they say, your miles may vary.

As for your reaction to Neurontin, I can't predict -- I do know that according to a lot of people Lyrica is much stronger (hence its lowest abuse/addiction classification C-V -- its a controlled substance) than Neurontin.

If you are one of the rather few people who respond to BuSpar, you might try that.

too true, I found klonopin much heavier at first but once I stabilised on it, it worked better for me than valium, but when valium worked for me it was great, it just took the anxiety away and made me feel normal. I think I have a very weird chemical make up. I seem to react differently on the whole to most meds with a few exceptions.

Sam, if you're worried about addiction buspar might be a good option or beta blockers in general for anxiety.
