Hi,
I want to get off Elavil, so I have recently tried trazodone for sleep.
I started with 50 mg of trazodone, but I didn't sleep for more than four hours.
So I took 100 mg of this drug on the second night.
I slept for many hours, but I felt absolutely dreadful the next morning.I quit trazodone right away, but I've been thinking about this drug ever since.
Trazodone is the second-most frequently prescribed agent for insomnia in the U.S.
Obviously this drug is a good sleep aid for many people. Now I have two options if I'm going to try trazodone again.
I can take 75 mg in the evening. Perhaps this will be the right dose.
The other option is to continue with 100 mg of trazodone.
The bad side effects might wear off in a couple of weeks.I would like to hear from anyone who has been on trazodone.
Best regards,
X-rayP.S. I've been on Elavil for 37 years, but I have hated this drug for 36 years.

Hi X-Ray,
I was given trazodone by a gp during a depressive episode for sleep. I didn't like it--I felt too drugged the next day. It did knock me out--but I felt there had to be better ways for me. (Right now my insomnia is such that sleep aids like sonata or lunesta do the trick.)
Good luck in your search,

Thanks for your reply!
Trazodone did knock me out, too.Sonata or lunesta won't help me much.
But I'm thinking about a Remeron-Seroquel combo.I'll keep on fighting.
Best regards,

Hi Phillipa,
I need medicine for sleep.
Elavil is a very good sleep aid.I've tried lots of other drugs.
But I have always returned to Elavil.I'm just trying to survive.
But I'm not happy about this drug.Elavil is a dirty drug, one doctor said.
It's "rat poison", my GP commented.Best regards,
X-ray

I take .25mg every night, along with other things that relax me (atacand for bp, Lyrica 150mg/day, Klonopin 1-1,5 mg/day and Celexa 30mg--which is activating) and I sleep very well. If it's a bad night calming down, I take 50mg. I don't have hangovers anymore, but it's more likely when I take 50mg.

Hi,
Thanks for your answer!
It's difficult to draw any conclusions from your post, since you are on Lyrica.
This drug works for GAD, but it's also a good sleep-aid.I think that I will give trazodone a second chance, but I shall have to wait.
I must play it safe with drugs right now, since I have financial problems.Best regards,
X-ray
