CANT SLEEP

Posted by ihatedrugs on August 18, 2009, at 17:37:53

I've had problems with sleeping for a year now. I have taken Ambien, klonopin and for the last month and a half Seroquel 25-50 mg. I recently quit Savella and went on to the Emsam patch knowing that insomina may be a problem but since it already was a problem I decided to go on the patch. I began the patch last Thursday so it hasn't been a week. I also discontinued Seroquel because of severe edema to the point where when I step off the bed I felt like 9 months pregnant. In addition, I think I'm feeling some withdrawal side effects(excessive body ache, like being beaten by a baseball bat) from Savella as I discontinued it cold turkey. However, I have been trying to continue on and overlook the fact that I am barely sleeping but last night, it got to me as I felt desperate since I had to get up early for my 1st day of school. So I took 2 mg Klonopin, and nothing then added Tylenol PM and nothing then added 50mg Vistaril and nothing finally I figured an Ambien cr would do the trick but nooooo I had to take a second one and it was already 4 in the morning. Only slept 4 hours. This is ridiculous. I don't know what to do. I don't want to take antipsychotics for sleep anymore as they make me feel like I weigh a ton of bricks. I hate that with all these meds you tackle one problem only to create another equally hideous. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do?
I know the patch does not help my situation in terms of possibly aggravating the insomnia but I am at the end of the rope with meds.

Ihated drugs assuming you hate them even more now. How horrible first day and no sleep. Can you start off tonight going to bed with a higher dose of klonopin 2mg was what quite a few original EMSAM posters were taking for sleep. Can you remove patch at night some also did that, cut the patch smaller to start others did this too. I'm so sorry nothing worse than no sleep. Been there so many times. I wish I could offer more:( Love Phillipa

Maybe it's time to try some alternative meds to help you sleep like magnesium. I know that not sleeping can make you feel like you are going crazy. I hope you catch some zzzzzs soon.

Hey, how's the sleep going? Have you figured some way to work with it yet?

If not, repost a new thread and we'll brainstorm a bit. And you can babble me....

I'll be watching this post and hoping for some ideas. I too take Emsam (which has been a life saver after trying 20 other meds). I can't sleep and it's really start to affect my life! I'm currently taking-

300 mg Lithium bedtime
12.5 Ambien CR bedtime
1 mg Clonazepam bedtime
6 mg Emsam in the morning
25-100 mg Vistaril as needed during the day
.50 mg of Clonazempam as needed during the day

I sleep for MAYBE 4 hours a night. I have the added problem of PLMD. Someone please tell us there's help for sleep out there! I fell asleep on my 30 minute lunch break at work yesterday and at the movies the other night ( I liked the movie so that wasn't it) and I've almost fallen asleep at stoplights, at work, and while driving long straight stretches. I just don't know what to do...... The Pdoc is aware of the problem and I don't go back to my sleep doc for about 3 weeks.

I know I am also trying to find a solution to this problem. Emsam is working well as far as keeping my moods in check. But the lack of seep is beginning to affect me too. I am so tired all the time. I am only taking two mg of klonopin as Ambien cr doesn't do anything anymore. I am also taking Magnolia bark an alternative supplement and it helps a little but nothing significant.
Anyone has any ideas please share your experiences.

I'm adding another mg of Klonopin to the Ambien tonight per the pdoc. I know it's possible that I'll sleep better but not probable after reading that you are already taking 2 mg. I slept from 12:30 to 4 last night. I'm exhausted but can't sleep- so frustrating!
