i was diagnosed with first episode acute psychosis and am now taking 1mg risperidone since 4 weeks. my family and doctors say i'm doing well, but how do i know if i'm getting better? my main worry is about my brain.

As best as you can describe, what was your experience when you were psychotic?
What, specifically, is your concern about your brain? Are you worried that the drugs might be hurting you?

Is this a psychosis/psychosis NOS diagnosis or part of BP/schizophrenia ?
Your brain... well... every psychotropic has its side effects, and one always has to weigh the benefits vs. the risks in medicine.
If people around you are saying you are doing better, then that's a positive sign I would think. Do you feel better ?
As for your "brain"... the brain is not set in stone, its fluid... it changes over time. I would have to know specifics of what exactly you are worried about ?
