SLS,
How long do you have to be off an SSRI like Zoloft before you start an MOAI like Parnate? I'm assuming that you have to wait longer to switch from an irreversible MOAI to an SSRI. Maybe I am wrong.

I just found the answer, 2 weeks, with the exception of Prozac, which is 4 weeks. Why is this exactly? I sure do not feel the effects of serotonin reuptake inhibition after 2 days let alone 2 weeks. I know this is mainly a precautionary measure.

Not yet, I'm giving Zoloft another go first. I'm miserable over so many things in my life and I am severely depressed and anxious but I'm not sure if I need Nardil or Parnate yet. I just need to feel normal. Or, at least what I consider to be normal.

It's because of Prozac's long halflife, the active metabolite norfluoxetine has a halflife of two weeks.

Much of the medical literature actually recommends 5 weeks for Prozac. You really need to respect serotonin syndrome. I am sure that some people can go for shorter washout periods, but how do you know who is who?
Something that should be considered if one is to switch from Nardil to another drug is that Nardil hangs around much longer than Parnate. The washout does require a full two weeks before MAO activity recovers. Some people go less with Parnate, but I still wait two weeks with this drug.
