NE and/or Pristiq users please read :)

What time of day do you take pristiq AM or PM? I am still very fatigued and am considering taking it at night....wondering what others think? Why does a med that inhibits NE reuptake make me tired?

Hi FM,

That darn fatigue! I take my 100 pristiq at night (my first week and half) (about an hour or two before bed) and I haven't needed a sleep aid at all. I am solid gone. I can't explain the NE effect, but I failed on wellbutrin--I could sleep on a 450 dose. (You recall that fatigue is a major issue for me.) Good luck, FM--thinking of you,

I don't know what the exact ratio is, but Pristiq is only slightly more potent at NE than Effexor. Both drugs are primarily serotoninergic. What's more, a drug like desipramine, a selective NE reuptake inhibitor, is sedating for many people, although this side effect usually dissipates. I guess this underscores how complex the brain is, and how variable are the properties of the drugs we use to treat it.

I thought pristiq was more sedating than effexor? Phillipa

Hi fb:

Same for me, I nodded right off on 450 mg Wellbutrin! But sometimes I would wake up 3 or 4 times in the night and obsess about something
It must be that awful fatigue factor.

Well, I am down to 1/4 of a 2 mg tablet of lunesta now (so 1/2 mg) and still able to sleep....think I will switch my pristiq to the nighttime to see if it helps! Also going to up the vyvanse from 30 to 50 mg......
I will keep you all posted!

I take my Pristiq around dinner. If I take it at bedtime I am hung over in the morning. If I take it in the morning I am tired all day long.

The only problem I have had with taking it at bedtime or dinner is that I still wake up in the middle of the night - wide awake and have a little trouble getting back to sleep.

Pristiq also really constipates me! Have you experienced this awful side effect? It's killing me.
