I took the 25mg of Nortriptyline and slept just fine!
Thanks so much for your help, Scott! I am just going to keep doing what I'm doing and expect (hope) to stabilize. I really feel pretty darn good! I'm so happy with the Parnate!! and I know I couldn't have done it alone!!
I have a quick question. I have had inhalent allergies for quite a while, esp. outdoor stuff. I occasionally wake up with a "sinus headache" if I have worked in the yard, etc.
On Amytripyline I never had a single headache and I felt like I was taking some really good antihistamine!
On Nortriptyline I have a mild headache every morning, sometimes lasting all day.
Is this my imagination?
I feel like I need a Sudafed (no, no). Is it OK to take Allegra or Zyrtec?
Is Amytriptyline a super antihistamine? Thanks for helping me so much!

Hi Gayle.
I am so glad that you are encouraged by what you are feeling. One day at a time.
Is your headache somehow different than it would be if you were taking no drugs at all?
Some of the tricyclics are powerful antihistamines. Amitriptyline is perhaps 10 times more powerful an antihistamine than is nortriptyline. That might explain your observations.
You can take an antihistamine as long as it doesn't have a decongestant in it. I believe oxymetazoline, pseudoephidrine, and phenylpropanolamine are the main ones used in OTC products.
Maybe someone else can chime in and address this question better than I can.

Hi Alexander:
I'm female. I am getting good sleep on the Parnate. The amytriptyline gave me wonderful sleep but tired all day. The Nortriptyline is giving me good sleep without the fatigue, and maybe a little more AD effect. I'm glad to be sleeping expecially since I'm also taking Provigil. The three together (Parnate, Provigil and Nortriptyline) are GREAT for me right now!! My libido is very good. I don't even think about it because before Parnate I was on Wellbutrin for many years and never had a libido problem with that, either. I guess I've been really lucky. Parnate is excellent!

>So glad to hear some succes stories. If I try AD's again, I will try yours minus the provigil, if my then pdoc has even heard of parnate. My last and only one didn't know that wellbutrin was an antidepressant when I asked him to augment my lexapro with it. Here in denmark it is solely a smoking cessation aid.

Have they not brought Wellbutrin out yet in Denmark for depression as it is now licensed all over the EEA for that as well as smoking cessation, it is certainly available in Holland, Switzerland and Germany as Wellbutrin XR for depression.
This is the end of the thread.
