Problems with excessive sleep

Posted by Deneb on August 1, 2009, at 15:47:42

I have problems with sleeping too much. I like sleeping 10 hours a night and I can sleep 12 hours no problem.

My pdoc thinks it's the Risperdal that is causing me to sleep so much. I have trouble waking up. I can sleep until 6 PM.

Recently I got in a bad way and I took extra Risperdal to get me past that. I ended up sleeping 15 hours.

To not sleep so much I took some caffeine, but the caffeine makes me really anxious. I just drank 2 cups and I am anxious as heck.

I've had problems reducing the Risperdal. I get in a bad way.

Uni is starting soon and I need to be able to wake up, go to class and study and not sleep all the time.

What can I do to solve this problem?

I only had one class so I was able to sleep a lot. I have more classes this fall. I'm going to have to really get my act together and study. They are hard subjects.

I drank coffee more back then and I think I got used to it's effects as it didn't me so anxious back then. Maybe I just need to slowly ramp up my caffeine intake. I dunno. Pdoc tells me not to take caffeine though.

Easier said then done in my case at least they say get up l5 minutes earlier each day. I wouldn't raise the caffeine if doc says no. Phillipa

I think maybe I just have bad sleep hygiene. I never take my meds the same time anymore and I stay up until morning. I think the Risperdal makes me sleep more, but I am able to get up if I need to. I'm not sleepy or anything during the day.

Maybe things will be OK once classes start. I will just have to make time to sleep a bit more. I love to sleep so if it doesn't interfere with my life then it's not such a bad side effect. LOL

Love to sleep. LOL

i'm on risperdol 4mg a day. i was cutting back to 2mg a day, think i will cut back again, because with the 4mg i sleep 11 hour nites and take 2 2 hour naps during the day. i'm so tired with this 4mg dose.... i'm tired of sleeping my life away... (also take prozac 40mg qd
klonopin 1mg qid
visteral 25mg bid prn
wellbutrin 300mg xl qd)
this is really an excellent cocktail and i have been on these same meds for over 10 years aprox. and i'm a different person now then what a was.. a social recluse, paranoid, angry, timid person. now i'm usually happy about 95% of the time.. yet i sleep way to much, thus the planned reduction of the risperdol back down to 2mg)
