Seroquel Irritability?

Posted by SheilaC on July 30, 2009, at 17:59:42

Does anyone know why Seroquel would make someone irritable?

Seroquel is great for sleep, but left me irritable during the day.

It made me feel like I was tripping.

Were you irritable before starting seroquel? If so, maybe the seroquel is wearing off and leaving you irritable during the day.

Seroquel has the same effect on me. Your system might not like the way the drug's metabolite affects NE.

How much Seroquel are you taking, and for how long have you been taking it?

What other drugs are you taking?

What other APs have you tried?

Been taking 50mg for about 2 years.

Take Klonopin prn.

Is there any way to add something in the morning to curb that NE crabbiness? Would adding a tiny dose of Parnate during the day work? Or should I just avoid MAOis? (I was thinking of maybe 5mg - 10mg). Only thing is I like chocolate and don't really want to think that much about what I put into my mouth.

Or would I need to just replace it with another anti-psych? I'm just bipolar II and have a hard time finding a drug that works for me without all the pesky side effects.

I've tried Abilify (made me hungry, swell up and twich a little).

Lamictal made my gums swell up and my face turn red and burn (weird).

Geodon just makes me sleepy.

No trippy feeling here. Just stone cold sleep. The crabbiness could be due to wearing off in the AM, but I'd be afraid to take more. If I up my dose over 100mg I'm really out of it.

Have you ever tried Geodon?

At 50mg, I'm not sure how much NE potentiation occurs. You might be right about taking too little of this drug. You might be experiencing a withdrawal symptom of sorts early in the day. It is hard to tell. The more Seroquel you take, the less sedating it becomes. Since anxiety is a problem, why don't you go up to 100mg for a few days to see how you react to it. I'm not sure what you have to be afraid of.

I have never heard of the use of Parnate in the fashion that you describe. I know people who use low dosages of selegiline, though.

By the way, you can eat chocolate with MAOIs. I believe the contraindication originated from a single case report. Here, the person had eaten quite a bit of cheeze earlier in the day. I eat chocolate all the time while taking Parnate 80mg.

I'm going for being off neuroleptics in the long term. Currently, I'm on Zyprexa. I have heard good things about the antidepressant effectiveness of Geodon. I have also heard bad things about some of it's possible side effects.

I have heard some recent news about potential brain shrinkage with neuroleptics, even zyprexa. Maybe this could be counteracted with a low dose of lithium, being that lithium can increase grey matter.

I don't know why, but I also experienced irritability & restless legs. All of the antipsychs seem to make me irritable. That is interesting about abilify & appetite. Same here.
