Hey FB
I did a trial (only a few days since it made me feel more anxious) at 39..... I think it was probably just my nerves (I was reluctant to try it) but figured I would mention it since no one else has responded yet.... Haven't tried again since but thinking about it.... FM

I knew an old lady (>70) who was given parnate in a hospital. It was apparenty working for her.

I was on parnate at age 61 for two months. Really had no problems and insomnia abter after a month. Seemed to stop working after each dosage increase. Would try again but this time with an addtional drug such as nortriptyline.

One person said she got a good response with parnate and ritalin. Not recommending this combo without a doctor's guidance.

The key is to go slow. Increase in increments of 5 mg to avoid sides. In my case started out with insomnia and the insomnia went away. Maybe I titrated up to quickly and missed my therapeutic window. If I did again I would spend several weeks at each 10 mg window. Good luck.

Hi Bulldog,

Good advice, thank you. I still have to discuss this with my pdoc, and he is away for two weeks. I think it's worth a shot, and after I read reviews on askapatient many of my questions /concerns were addressed. Believe me, if I start, I'll be nervous and posting like crazy!

Yes, I agree. I'd like to try parnate again at lower doses. Perhaps 10-20mg max.

Maybe 30mg max?

Just go slow.

Sure. I shouldn't have given an upper limit. Some respond to higher doses. I just remember feeling not too bad at 20mg and then started having this reaction at higher doses. I wish I could try the lower doses again.

It is just that I found 30mg to be the lowest dosage that I experienced any positive effect at all. I think most people need a minimum of 40mg. However, you might have an exquisite sensitivity to Parnate which will allow you to take lower dosages and retain an antidepressant response.

If you have to go up very gradually, you might get to where you need to be. That you experienced any improvement at all is encouraging.

I know you are aware of the occurrence of spontaneous hypertensive episodes with Parnate upon initial titration. I don't know how much they cost, but maybe you can get one of those at home BP measuring devices. One of my doctor's patients developed a headache while taking Parnate. There was no BP measurement taken at the time to know whether or not it was a hypertensive event. Still, my doctor developed a fear of Parnate. Getting him to go up to 80mg was like pulling teeth.

Currently on 10 mg percocet 4 times a day + 1200 mg neurontin 2 times a day and feeling pretty good. Will probably change the percocet to a product without the acetimoniphen in it such as oxycontin. It's been 6 weeks and I haven't upped the dose on the percocet. Have not developed a tolerance as of yet. Yes the initial euphoria is gone but it's still giving me a good mood boost.

I'm thinking of asking the p-doc to let me go back on the parnate low dose. Somewhere between 10 - 30 mg. I don't think I need 60 mg as before.Just need to know there no contraindication between oxycodone and parnate. I think the parnate boost may be the missing piece of the puzzle.
