I have BP II and have been taking seroquel and klonopin. I really miss the effects of and AD.
My problems in the past with the SSRIs and the SNRIs have been my bladder. I either retain urine (and have terrible spasms and pain) or they cause frequency, urgency, etc. I don't understand why an AD would do this, but it does show up in most of their disclaimers.
Any ideas on an AD that wouldn't make my bladder go nuts?

Do you have interstiticial cysticis sp? That causes problems as you describe? Phillipa

Wish I could help about the bladder situation - but wanted to tell you that you are not alone. I tried lexapro twice and had to stop both times because of an immediate and raging UTI - seriously, it was awful. I think ADs do cause urinary retention, and some people, like us, are more sensitive to that side effect.

No ADs anymore - just 10 mg adderall daily. I never really considered that it would help me because I never thought of myself as OCD or ADD - but it seriously changed my life. I feel calm, focused, energetic and most importantly: NOT depressed. My shrink suggested it after I complained about all the ADs I had tried over the years, which worked somewhat, but had side effects that I couldn't stand: fatigue, headaches, anxiety, insomnia and weight gain. Seriously, it changed everything for me.

I suffered from UTI's for many years and was on antibiotic therapy (preventative) for some time. I took Macrobid when I felt an attack coming on......NO MORE!I discovered a miracle drug for me and it is well known to prevent UTI's: D-MANNOSE.......believe me, it works!!!
I went to my local health food store which has an excellent reputation.
I now take Solaray D-Mannose with Cranactin (about $28.00 for a month's supply) for the past 3 1/2 months and have had absolutely NO symptoms whatsoever, and I used to get them at least every couple weeks or so......what a relief!
I take 2 of these capsules a day, one morning and evening, with a glass of water, and like magic, no urinary problems whatsoever.
D-Mannose is a simple sugar which is not absorbed into the bloodstream so that even diabetics can take it. It is nothing more. And Cranactin of course is from cranberries which aids, but the main ingredient, D-mannose, REALLY prevents bacteria from clinging to the walls of the bladder way more than cranberry, and changes the PH of the urine. It has been an absolute godsend for me. Try it. You will not be sorry.
I asked my doctor why people are not told about it, and guess what, he didn't even claim to know about it. for one thing, UTI's are a frequent cause of office visits and prescription antibiotics, so what does the doctor have to gain by recommending a simple remedy over potent antibiotics?
