Afternoon/Eve, irritability: cytomel or adderall?

Posted by Frustratedmama on June 21, 2009, at 15:14:32

Ok: so tomorrow is pdoc appointment! I am now experiencing afternoon and evening irritability and hunger (worse than in the AM and noon hours) and am wondering if this is likely due to adderall XR rebound or cytomel rebound? Anyone- thoughts?
I should add that neurontin MAY be helping some now! Hurray!
Mood still low but less angry than Friday!

FM,

Never experienced adderall. Cytomel, as I've mentioned left me ragged. The dip was too dysphoric.

Good luck tomorrow, Candace

Thanks Candace! I think it is the cytomel causing the problems! I am reviewing my labs and looking at the results which indicate that I don't need thyroid meds (and body can't handle them). I am planning to talk to him tomorrow about it and also ask for a switch to dex or focalin .
Wish you luck tomorrow too! Post tomorrow night if you can! I will be looking forward to seeing what happens at your visit as well.
Hugs! FM

Dear FM,
I have found that any stimulant leaves me feeling ragged at the end of the day--weepy, just blue or irritable. That's why I combine provigil with klonopin and gabapentin. They help take the edge off. I also try to take a small dose late in the afternoon but I can get away with that because I take remeron and seroquel at night. Nothing could keep me awake!
If your thyroid is normal and something else brings you refief, I would steer clear of the cytomel. I was on 50mgs a day and it made me feel great for a while. It also shut down my thyroid which did not seem like a good thing!
Have you tried hormone replacement of any kind? I take bio-identical hormones, estridiol and progesterone and it helps.
Take care.

Zana

Thanks Zana!
Yeah, I am definitely able to tell when the adderall wears off (and when the gabapentin wears off). I wish these meds were longer acting.... Anyway, ditched the cytomel! Haven't tried provigil in a long time- something to think about though! Thanks!
