Frankly, I've been avoiding posting this question for about a week now. I've been on Dexedrine for 3.5 months. It put the stopper in a nascent major depressive episode, relived my SA, treated my ADD, and relieved my fatigue. Basically, I felt like what it might be to feel *normal*, a new experience for me.
Here are the problems as I see them: first is conceptual: I mean, it's speed, right? I can't seem to get past the idea that this stuff is bad for me. Is it? Why?
Second: it is already less effective on fatigue. It still helps with ADD, still retains positive effect on SA/ SP. (let's say that with it, SP is more like mild SA.) Pdoc says my ADD dose would be almost twice what I take now (45mg.) But crikey, does escalation end?
Third: I think it is messing with my appetite. Fun for a moment, because usually I am heavier than I want to be, but over the long term, maybe not healthy.
Is Dexedrine just the most wonderful *band-aid* to come into my life, or does it have long-term therapeutic value?
Can nuvigil or provigil provide a less problematic substitute?
I've decided to talk to my pdoc on Monday, (he is also my therapist, and I like him), and I am afraid he will *take it away* without an effective substitute. I can't go back to how I was before.
Please, does anyone have any med suggestions (or dexdrine support) I can consider?

advice: do not take on weekends. 45mg X 2 daily in half? 22.5mg?
The Spansules? or the Tablet?
Spansules for some reason take longer to work yet they release at adequate levels, tablets just "desovle". Spansules release, at slower plasma levels, I took them, they work'd exellent. Yet i have drama, in at home, so "what's gonna hit the fan next?" Be sure you are away from Toxic People...
Vyvanse stay's in your system and builds up and causes side effect beyond reality.have anxiety? issues? It depends really on the person, and how it effect's dopamine, if you have adequate GABA transmission, to keep electricty in it's place. Not going in frount of the mirror and go AHH your hair stands up! static...come in, get an antenna! on the roof!
Provigil is not, really provent effective in ADD, or ADHD cases. Strattera...mmm maybe by it's self at a proper dose. It effects norephenirine, (misspelled) which keep you alert, yet not "intrested, or motivated". Keep's you more active, if you life is worth being active (that applies to my case, no offence, my life can't stand it)
Paxil could be good, yet, it increases serotonin so much...it's too much! you feel dozy.
hang in there...

Hi there,
Just a thought here- :0
It could be the pristiq combined with the dexedrine as pristiq is stimulating too! I know that after I went up on effexor years ago I had to lower my dex to feel the way I did when I started the combo.... I think the SNRI's change over time (hence the poop out effect and change from good to blunted over time) so maybe just adjusting the dose might help. I also took the spansules and liked them so much better than the regular dose. I am actually thinking I might ask for a change to dex spansules on Monday due to adderall rebound in the evenings. Vyvanse- I wouldnt recommend. Maybe focalin?
Thinking of you!!!!!!

Candance,
It doesn't sound as though you are really having a problem with the dexedrine except that you feel it's not a good idea.
I would say that if it is indeed giving you energy and keeping your depression at bay and not causing you big problems you should continue on it. Ampethamines have been around and in wide use for a long time. I think you are on to a good thing and should stick with it. In this case, as a therapist of mine once said, it sounds like drugs are our friends.Take care.

Hi Phillipa,
Yes, am diagnosed as ADD. Does that make a difference between long and short term therapy or efficacy?

Thanks Zana, for your reply. I think you're right--that major trouble is accepting it as a med and not a drug. That said, I just don't know about the long term efficacy and health effects of Dex. Can't seem to find long term users that are vocal--or that there are no long-term users?
But then there is the stomach discomfort....
thanks!
