Seroquel and Teeth

Posted by Zana on June 15, 2009, at 15:23:20

Is it my imagination or have other people had dental problems when they are on seroquel? I have been on it twice and during both periods I developed gum recession, cavities and even a bony growth. These might just be coincidental but it makes me wonder....

Had an excellent dentist explain once that many meds, AD, etc included, cause dry mouth, or at least a change and or lessening of saliva. That's the stuff that bathes our gums. Had/have gum recession on AD's. Don't know if seroquel is a worse offender or not......

I recall that tooth problems is a side effect listed for various APs (I think rxlist.com?). Sorry to hear that you've had them. How are your gums and teeth doing now?

Do you have abnormally dry mouth, from Seroquel and/or any medication you're taking ?

Long term, this is theoretically possible to cause caries and dental issues as one use in the human body of saliva is to regulate that.

There is medication that can change that if you need it, although it could cause drooling I suppose.

Belated thanks to everybody. I think it is most likely the cumulative effects of many mouth drying meds. And years of them. What a bummer and dental work is sooo expensive!
Thanks again.
