i have recently started on clonazepam 2mg a day and i noticed some beneficial effects the first few days but then i feel it stopped working in that i built up tolerance and need a higher dose. i know some people find they do fine on 1 or 2 mg of clonazepam but i feel i am going to be one of those people who need more for a therapeutic effect. i was going to suggest to my doctor going up to maybe 6 or 7mg a day. do you think that would be enough. thanks for any advice

6 or 7mg is a very high dose. 1-2 or less seems to be standard. I'd suggest talking to your doc on why you need or feel you need more after a few days. Good luck Phillipa

Hi PaulB,
Do you take a divided dose or your alloted 2 mg. all at once? That could make a difference in response. If you are in a *crisis*, maybe you need a bit more to see you through and can drop down again. Also, some people use clonazepam as part of a mix for chronic anxiety. Definitely talk to your doc. good luck!

Just read another post of your's, so you probably already know what I wrote. I take up to 1.5 mg per day in .5 mg. doses, though at my worst, I supplement(ed) with xanax as needed for breakthrough anxiety. I haven't built up a tolerance, yet. Maybe you are not at your theraputic dose? (Well, I suppose that's obvious enough.)
Good luck, again,
Candace

i take 2mg all at once. may i get a better response if i were to divide it into 1mg twice a day. or am i doing it right already by taking 2mg all at once. ill discuss with my doctor switching if if its better to divide the dosage. out of interest why could dividing the dose help.

hi PaulB,
I think you'd get more continuous, even coverage (no peaks or valleys) with a few doses per day. I don't have the head to remember half-lives and such things. Maybe someone else on Babble can explain it (or debunk it!) more clearly. I know if I take my clonopin in the a.m., I might forget my mid-day dose because I'm still comfortable. By evening, I usually feel the need to take it again.
This is the end of the thread.
