Does anyone else really not liked to be looked at, even during conversation? When people look at me I get uncomfortable.

self-counsious to all i can know. The image you give does effect, diffrent way's people view you. Been through this before long ago, 1st day of high school....ancient days ago.
Just know who your are, represent, and the speech and your image will build. Be sure, to be true, no fakeness.

How often do you feel this? Does it include all of society or people around your age?
In what situations do you feel this most strongly?

I get that. But not nearly as bad as I used to, ever since I started Lexapro + Risperdal + therapy. Even klonopin and nardil did not help as much as that combo.

Yes, meds + therapy help me with SP. One without the other doesn't seem to work.

Since the optic nerve is part of the brain, a shared look is really brain to brain and mind to mind contact, so it is no wonder people are sensitive about it.

Just for perspective, esp. after Maniac's post. Alot of people don't like being looked at--not just us random folks on Babble. Consider the time spent on grooming, clothes, sunglasses, and the list goes on. Being looked at IS intense. Gorillas avoid eye contact-many animals do.
Then again, those of us with SP, like me, well, the discomfort is more pronounced....

depends on to what degree I am being looked at, and in what way
I used to not be able to tolerate much eye contact, I'm a lot better at it now
I'm not good at eye contact though when I don't think the other person likes me or when I am saying something I am not particularly proud of

One also has to consider the person's eyes with eye contact.
I had a professor for the longest time that I thought was looking away from me when I realized that he had glaucoma.
Not that its a common occurrence, but one never knows.

when I'm depressed, anxious, or my self-esteem is in the dumps (as it is now--gaining 15 pounds in a year is just not cool), I really have a problem w/it. When feeling better, I'm OK with it.
