So I recently upped my dose of Buspar from 30 mgs to 35 mgs a day. The next morning when I raised my head from my pillow I experienced some of the worst vertigo ever. It lasted most of the day, and staying on the same dose I woke up the same the next day. So I decided to reduce the dose back down to 20 mg a day. The vertigo has stopped, but I'm feelin pretty poopy.
Has anyone else had a problem like this with buspar.
Is this drug really worth it for GAD and SA?
I doesn't seem to be doing much. The only thing that really dents the anxiety is Ativan.
Should I just ask the doc to put me on a daily dose Benzo, or is that a bad idea?
Current Meds:
5mg Paxil
10mg Buspar 2x day (20mg)Thanks everyone,
Zill

I wouldn't ask just for a daily benzo. Not speaking for anyone else's doctor, but mine would not be receptive to a benzo-only diet.

I've been taking 30 mg a day of buspar for about 3 months. I have never noticed any side effects from it ever, except a little brain shock feeling about 10 minutes after I take it; it goes away in about 1/2 hr.
I think it has been helpful for me, as long as I dont' have too many stressors. I've had some rebounds of anxiety though, real bad last week.
But I really think it's had a positive effect on my mood-besides this past week, I have probably only felt a bit 'down' just a couple of days over the past 1-2 months, and have dealt with a lot of stress lately. If I have to get something else for anxiety, I think I want to keep the buspirone. It's impossible to say what my anxiety would be like w/o it though, since I've gone off meds for months at a time with no symtpoms in the past. I really like buspirone, from how I perceive it's helped me. The only way I'd know for sure would be to quit taking it and for now, I see no reason to.

I guess if I hadn't started with benzos and buspar had been out could be on it but once was on it with a benzo low dose and nothing. Some say if been on a benzo it won't work. Phillipa ps I'd stick with the dose without vertigo had that once horrible.
