I took brand name Wellbutrin SR 300/day for about seven years and did well on it. Then my drug plan switched me to the generic. After that I became increasingly depressed.
So I decided to go back to the brand name. What a difference! I forgot how good I could feel. However, I'm now older and much more drug sensitive. The "real stuff" made me feel great; but I started twitching, something I had experienced years ago on a larger dose.
I went down to 150mg/day for about five days and the twitching stopped. When I told my health care provider the story she, told me to take the XL 150 (once a day) in the hopes that it would work for the depression without causing twitching. I started doing that. The twitching is gone. But I'm feeling increasingly depressed.
Does anyone have any thoughts about what I can do in terms of fiddling with the dosage? I asked my hp whether I could take the second SR every other day. i.e. one day 300 and then next day 150, and was told that was too dangerous. I'm wondering whether I can take brand name sr in the morning (150)and generic (150),since it seems to be so much less potent, for my afternoon dose.
Or... whether taking 150XL in the morning and 150XL at night would work without creating the side effects.SRRIs do not work for me at all. I tried 1/2 of lowest dose of Cymbalta and by second day was yawning and then had panic attack. So I feel my choices are limited.
I do take 150 Lamictal along with the Wellbutrin.
Any thoughts or ideas would be so helpful.I don't want to sink into that inertia. Thanks so much in advance.

You could take 1 of the 200mg SR's. Thats what I take. You can get use to the generic if you take it for about a month. Thats what I did. Didn't like it at first but when I got use to it I liked it better than brand. I didn't like the XL version of brand.

Is there something you can add to reduce anxiety and the muscular symptoms? I'm thinking Klonopin or Xanax PRN. Or perhaps, even though SSRIs don't work for you alone, maybe an SSRI plus Wellbutrin combo might work out for you. Which SSRIs have you tried? Paxil is supposed to be more sedating and have fewer anxiety/panic side effects than a med like Zoloft.

My twitching has almost stopped. But I'm definitely more depressed though not awfully (yet) on the 150 XL.
I do take Clonopin every night. Because of my drug sensitivity, I take 1/2 of .5 most times for sleep and/or anxiety.
The SSRIs that I've tried have been: Lexapro, Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Celexa. All of them have made me feel as if I've been stuffed with cotton (almost no feelings), very sleepy, and very hungry. I would come home from work, lie down, fall asleep (something that I never, ever do) and then get up to eat and crash again.
It's very frustrating.
BTW.. to the person who said it might take time to get used to the generic. I was on the generic for a number of years and it definitely did not work as well, if at all as the brand name.
Thanks to you all.
Please keep the ideas coming.
