Hi, I'm currently taking Effexor XR. I've been taking it for a total of 6 weeks, but I've only been at my current dose, 300mg, for 3 weeks. I don't seem to be having any response to it so I was wondering if anyone knew of a med that I could possibly use in combination with the Effexor XR so it might work better for me. Thanks.

Dr. Stephen Stahl, author of "Essential Pharmacology of Depression and Bipolar Disorder", called the combination of Effexor and Remeron 'California Rocket Fuel'.

Hey Matt, sorry your still in a rut. Effexor is a potent AD. You might need something like lamictal to augment it. This combo works great for me.

Well I've been on the "California Rocket Fuel" myself so I'll put in my two cents. (although why is it "California", is he implying that we Californians are crazier than residents of other states, or that we are in the vanguard of drug taking?).
Yes for me Remeron and Effexor was very, very effective for a while. Then it stopped working, so called "poop out".
With Remeron watch out for weight gain. You will crave sweets like nothing else. I think maybe Remeron was invented by Hostess in order to sell their delicious Twinkies and Chocolate covered cupcakes.

There are numerous posts on this site about combining Effexor with high dose Wellbutrin (and not just to counter Effexor's sexual side effects). Maybe reading those posts will help.

Everyone has given you excellent ideas to work with. I would add nortriptyline to your list.

I second Larry's suggestion. I am taking pristiq (the new effexor) with remereon. No weight gain. Great sleep. It's been a really great combo for me.
