I've been on antidepressant medication my entire adult life. I also fall in the category of someone who had a difficult/painful childhood.
Just wondering of those members here who take medication has anyone NOT had a difficult childhood.
And by difficult I don't mean you didn't get what you wanted for Christmas one year. I'm talking about neglect and abuse.

Verbal abuse in the form of being blamed for everything. I guess no one being home is a form of neglect. Are you new if so welcome. Love Phillipa

I've wondered this myself. Me, I had a difficult childhood; sounds like maybe you did, too. I'm sorry.

Me. I had a wonderful childhood. My adulthood after about age 19, well, at many times, not so much :-( Long story - not always pretty.
I don't currently take any ADs, just Strattera for ADD, but I did for several years, and have suffered from bouts of depression serious enough to include suicidal thoughts. But not until about age 40 or so.
I'm sorry your childhood was so painful. It really does s*ck that all children don't get what they need and deserve.

But I mainly suffered a lot of guilt and worry when my mother went down with a nervous breakdown. My parents are kind people though and happy to have them.

I got beat up a lot. Starting very young, and thru late teens. Nose broke, beat unconcouse more than once. Got run over by a car when about 5, they just placed me on the side of the road, unconcuse. Lots of verbal abuse. My parents were always nice. They didn't want to hear about it though. And never did anything about it.

no, i mean i can see trends consistent from early life that are blown up 100x now, but they weren't malignant at the time, it was slow decline between 13-24 or so. childhood wasn't unhappy at all
