Hi,
after relapsing into a depression while on Remeron I have switched medications to Edronax + Zoloft. I take these for major depressive disorder and panic anxiety. Zoloft did nothing for my depression nor panic anxiety. When I started Edronax I almost immediately felt a relief in panic anxiety and the panic attacks stopped.
Since my depression is not getting better but slightly worse, I'm thinking of what to do next. I prepared to ditch Zoloft since hasn't shown any good effects, but what should replace it with? I'm running out of ideas. I'm having a hard time believing that replacing Zoloft with another SSRI like Lexapro would be beneficial but who knows. Please give me ideas./Mattias

> /MattiasWell, at least you now know that a drug with NE reuptake inhibition is helpful, for whatever reason. I would just mention that some top clinicians are looking at the utility of mixing SRIs like Zoloft and Effexor with NRIs like reboxetine, desipramine, and nortriptyline.
I have a bipolar depression that has shown itself to be very difficult to treat. However, some drugs and drug combinations have had positive impacts. For what it's worth, I experienced a pretty stable mild improvement from combining Effexor with nortriptyline. That a treatment is capable of improving my condition at all is probably a good sign that it will be effective for others. Yes, I think you can go ahead and try to swap-out the Zoloft for another SRI. I recommend either Effexor or Lexapro. Don't be bashful about adding Wellbutrin to either of these two drugs. There's magic in them there pills.

I have always responded best to noradrenergic agents. I tried Effexor about ten years ago, did nothing for my depression and I had horrible night sweating on it, the sheets were completely soaked in sweat when I woke up, and then there are those weird dreams.. Of course I could respond differently to it now. So you think switching from Zoloft to Lexapro could make a difference?
Edronax have worked for me before and I'm disappointed about the lack of response now. Historically it has taken 6-7 months for me to recover from a depression regardless of medication, I'm scared that I have to wait this one out too./Mattias

> /MattiasA dear friend of mine responded reasonably well to Effexor + Wellbutrin (another NE drug). However, when she switched from Effexor to Lexapro, her depression improved quite a bit more. She has been fine on that combination for at least 5 years. She recently added Geodon. Now she is in full remission.
