Is there any relationship between an antidepressent that stops working or works less and how it is processed in the liver? That is after years of using that medication, something changes in this area.---Since almost all antidepressants etc. are metablolized by the liver, could taking something like Milk Thistle which is a liver cleanser(good for it) be beneficial?Just wondering if there is anything to this or not.

To clarify my question.Does years of taking an antidepressant, like an ssri or any psychiatric medication for that matter eventually cause something in the liver to process it in a different or less effective way, causing the medication to stop working? And would something like Milk Thistle be beneficial to get things back on track?

Odon, I also wonder why drug response sometimes change over time.
Were you thinking that your meds caused some damage to your liver? Did you get any lab work done?
I'm not knowledgeable about bio-chem & pharmacology, but when I was trying to find some answers in the past, I searched for "bioavailability,". Wikipedia (yes, I know Wik is hit & miss)had a page w/ factors influencing how much drug is bioavailable. And I looked up drug metabolism.

I don't think that the liver has anything to do with loss of efficacy. I don't think milk thistle will change anything having to do with loss of efficacy.
