I have BP2 with treatment resistant depression. Even Lamictal will cause hypomania for me. I've found that a small amount (75-150mg) of Lithium to be better, but it is still a bit to stimulating. Is this totally odd? I was wandering if anyone else has had this experience and if they added another drug like valporate or Trileptal to tone down the activation.

wow, sounds like you're in quite a bind. i can undersand lamictal causing hypomania since it seems to work better as an antidepressant than as a mood stabilizer. but such a small dose of lithium is activating? hmmm...
my experiences with depakote and trilepal were pretty brief. for me, they were much more sedating than lithium and really slowed me down. even on a really small dose of depakote (250mg bid), i felt foggy and was uncoordinated. trileptal made me feel completely dead--it was a really weird and unpleasant feeling of almost being outside of my body and not caring at all about what was going on. it made me want to go so far as to harm myself in order to feel something.
hope this helps!

Same here. The stabilizers by themselves make me depressed with the exception of Lithium, which does have antidepressant qualities. Usually anything that's touted as having AD properties is a signal to me to be careful. Maybe if I used a higher dose of Lithium I'd get a different effect. I'm just a bit nervous about it.

i think higher dose of lithium is better for anti-manic properties
