Well went into the Lindtt candy store and a young guy that worked there in the past had moved to Los Angeles Now he's back in Charlotte . We were talking and he said it's wierd as here before I left I was on 160mg of cymbalta and ativan. I moved out there and even though the economy is horrible and I couldn't get a job everyone hard to explain was very laid back and didn't worry. I stopped cold turkey the cymbalta and ativan no side effects no nothing. Felt Great. Now I'm back here and look I'm shaking and already told someone off. How come didn't need meds there and I feel like I should take at least the ativan here. How come I didn't need a thing there. Anyone have an explanation? Seriously this happened today. He came back as could work here only reason said he should go back. Any one from Los Angeles that can explain? Wierd I know but I do not make up stories I talk to a lot of people when out and Lindtt frequent as lost taste and smell and dark chocolate slightly taste. Love Phillipa

Its a city that has high stress industries such as certain movie-production related jobs, high tech careers -- the general region tends to be rather impersonal and imposing to some as the metropolitan area is vast and spread out.On the other hand, high stress jobs with low payment in this economy can be found in any city and I don't necessarily see a conclusion.
People also wax with rosy lenses back to an area that they felt was better for them. I know that I wish I was back where I went to college, it was much more laid back. But I know I had dysthmia at the time and trouble with relationships and OCD with reading. Still, I managed.
But on return trips the place seemed foreign -- a lot had changed, just as in other parts of the country, places have gone condo, neighborhoods have been redone, landmark places have been bought up and destroyed.
And with the economy now, it is as similar there as it is in Los Angeles.
I may know some people from the past locally but my biggest problem is isolation, and that can happen in any city. That is as depressing and mood changing as stress and isn't city dependent (except that metropolitan regions tend to have more access to social outlets, which is true of either area).
Are freeways utterly clogged up with people driving in completely dangerous and rude manners, yes -- New York so I hear is having a campaign against that since it so rampant. May Los Angeles have such a thing too, considering there were two egregious incidents in the past week. But so again can be said about any other place in this country, again.
I think its a more lonely place for people who have depression, as for stress, high rent, somewhat high gas prices, and jobs insufficient to cover the necessities of life with enough leftover for the pursuit of happiness, is probably true for countless people.

I was thinking when got up that maybe was because he wasn't working hence no stress and had family there. here did anyone know lindt is closing a lot of stores as the public now knows the product hence why a store and he's working again. Very nice guy. Lots of freeways here also and backwards streets that stop no reason just end. But if depression and anxiety is biological which I feel isn't known why would he again feel this way? He is earning money now . Jay he's probably you age and I can't say the other here. But I think. Anyway something to think about. Love Jan

Phillipa,
whereabouts in LA? There is no "Los Angeles", just a bunch of suburbs in search of a city. It's a huge ethnic and class stew, warming in the hot sun. each suburb is different, so which area?

How long did he live there? Because novelty is hypothesized as being a kind of anti-depressant (a psychiatrist has suggested that pdocs would do well to prescribe vacations rather than ADs--can't remember his name). I've heard it reported that a person does extremely well in another city...but then crashes. I lived in CA for a time, actually in northern CA which is purported to be more laid back than LA. But you know the saying (Jon Kabat-Zin): wherever you go, there you are. You take the same issues with you that you have anywhere: money, time, etc. People aren't all laid back there. Some can be pretty intense.
