Tired/dizzy feeling in legs- someone pls answer

Posted by Garnet71 on March 14, 2009, at 12:36:29

This is the side effect that got me when I tried Wellbutrin a couple months ago...what does it mean when your legs feel really tired? It's not muscular; it's like being dizzy in your legs and it feels like you can feel your blood flowing and there is a bit tingling. It's not subtle.

What does this mean? When I searched, I could only find references to circulation or some kind of potential nerve pathology.

Don't know if I could stick this out for much longer if this symtpom doesn't alleviate soon. I'm going to call the PDocRN and ask her about this, but not until Monday since its not an emergency.

Please, does anyone know what this could be from? It started just a few hours after i took 1 Wellbutrin yesterday and it hasn't let up although I didn't even take todays' dose yet...

I feel incredibly miserable.

Garnet that is strange. I thought when I fell over the dog leash for no reason when tried wellbutrin that was a sign on not paying attention which lead to pdoc thinking I was manic. No prior injuries to legs? Love Phillipa

Hi, that sounds really uncomfortable.

Have you ever had restless leg syndrome? I have and what you are describing sounds similar.

This is one of parts of nardil that I like...makes me know its working...it got much more subtle when I stabilized. I call it "stimulation in the legs". The quads i'm guessing is exactly where you mean? the big leg muscles above the knee and below waist? This is caused by NE. Its not going to hurt you and it will go away in time. There is no nerve issue or lack of blood flow at all. There is nothing wrong with you but if it bothers ya check it out with the pdoc for sure. For me it kinda made me want to massage them a lil and I would say wow I feel like doing something. I can imagine it could be uncomfy if you are side-effect sensitive or if it is very/overly stimulating. If wellbutrin is the one you want to stick with...just hang in there and it will become more subtle over time.

i just noticed you said its not muscular...it most likely it though...the NE is stimulating most of your muscles in your legs and get a weird weak tingly feeling that may intensify...always made me grin. for me always in the quads though but everyone is different

Thanks to those who responded. Myco, I'm am so happy you told me that. I never knew that NE activity caused that feeling! What you said makes sense, though it still feels like blood flowing...It's not as bad as yesterday and I can bear with it. Could this mean the Wellbutrin is working? Does NE activity preclude Dopamine activity? Only my 2nd day and I noticed a bit of difference. Just a tiny bit of energy that came from the little smiley faced purple pill.

I was feeling so horrible when I wrote that message, the Wellbutrin made me miserable but mostly because my back and neck got all twisted and out of place. It felt like a drill was boring into my left shoulder too. I was using tools while trying to balance myself on top of a ladder in a very ackward position and woke up in extreme pain. Does NE activity also make muscle pain-like knots -worse? I really really need my masseus for an hour...if I only had 60 bucks. I did yoga, epsom salts, stretchs but it still hurts.

I quit Ritalin a few days ago after trying it for a month. It lasted so short-wore off at 6 pm then I'd feel real tired for the rest of the night. I can't handle tiredness anymore. lol Banking on the Wellbutrin to kick in..and soon I hope.

Thanks! :))

That could mean it's "working" for sure...well it's having the desired neurochemical effect...is it working is for you to decide. Just remember it wont hurt and go with the flow if you can, it will ease up eventually...I like meds that do that to my legs because it tells me that they are still working.

I hated effexor because it caused horrible anxiety but it also had this leg stimulating NE effect at higher doses. That being said...alot of meds that work on NE to a heavy extent will produce bad anxiety (including muscle tension - i.e. make your sore muscles worse potentially) for people who have anxiety as a root symptom like me. To counterbalance this you could lower dose and augment for added variable effect or add in a muscle relaxing benzo.

Yes dopamine precedes norepinephrine in the biochemical pathway. The best illustration of this ive ever experienced was when I used L-tyrosine which makes dopamine then norepinephrine. I felt the dopamine kick in - my focus improves, i got a lil sleepy, sexually arroused a lil then the NE came in with increases irritability and stimulation. It was beautifully manifested with tyrosine (an aside in case ya care lol). Of course you know that adrenalin comes after NE in the pathway...i havent pinpointed the exact feel of that though but i would imagine euphoric energy of some kind, although perhaps mild.

Quitting ritalin will also add some sides for you while you start up wellbutrin. Good for you though if wellbutrin works for you...for myself it would probably make me want to bite someone from increased tension and anxiety.
