I know you guys are going to kill me, but....

O.K.

I've decided to give Marplan another shot. I know I go up and down like a yo-yo, but I'm just tryin to get this as right as possible.

Haven't figured out how to start at a lower dosage of 2.5mgs or 5 mgs (and I don't think my pdoc is real sure either).

If I've taken 25 mgs of zoloft for the past 3 days, how long do you think I would need to wait before starting out at a low dose of maoi? I don't think I would have to wait to long.

What was the danger of mixing the two again? Do you think it would be a problem if I took a 2.5mg of Marplan tomorrow?

Thanks,

Courtney

Courtney no one will be mad you made a decision and you have that right to make your own decisions. Remember this is a support board okay? As far as the time frame leaving that to those who know MAOI's. Did you ask your doc that should be your first person to ask. Love Phillipa

Sorry everybody!

Rush decision that I have now gone back on. Seems like after looking on here and on the website www.patientslikeme.com, people don't do so well on Marplan for any extended amount of time. It also seems like it takes a much longer period of time to up dosages to get to where you can feel a difference. (From what I have read, it could take months and then once you hit it, it doesn't stay up long). I don't have months and months.

Not ruling out maoi's, just maybe not that one. Am going to start looking up info on Emsam. Pharmacist told me it would cost 560.00 per month for patch. Can't afford that one.

I'll figure something out.

You have to wait. Do not take the Marplan tomorrow. If you've only been on the Zoloft for three days, and you're starting at such a low dose of Marplan, you might get away with a week between the drugs, but I'd wait at least 10 days. The monograph calls for at least two weeks.

"Marplan should not be administered in combination with any SSRI. There have been reports of serious, sometimes fatal, reactions (including hyperthermia, rigidity, myoclonus, autonomic instability with possible rapid fluctuations of vital signs, and mental status changes that include extreme agitation and confusion progressing to delirium and coma) in patients receiving fluoxetine (Prozac®, Lilly) in combination with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), and in patients who have recently discontinued fluoxetine and are then started on a MAOI. Some cases presented with features resembling neuroleptic malignant syndrome. Fluoxetine and other SSRIs should therefore not be used in combination with Marplan, or within 14 days of discontinuing therapy with Marplan. As fluoxetine and its major metabolite have very long elimination half-lives, at least 5 weeks should be allowed after stopping fluoxetine before starting Marplan. At least 2 weeks should be allowed after stopping sertraline (Zoloft®, Pfizer) or paroxetine (Paxil®, SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals) before starting Marplan. In addition, there should be an interval of least 10 days between discontinuation of Marplan and initiation or fluoxetine or other SSRIs."

Thanks phillipa!

LOL!!! I've already changed my mind again.

After reading on some other med sites, I don't think Marplan may be the right choice.

I'm not giving up maoi's yet, but will let you know.

Love ya,

Courtney

I really wanted EMSAM also as you can customize the size of the patch and take it off it horrible side effects. Do they now have a patient assistance program? Still two boxes of it sitting here never used. If I were you google on Bob's side of google Robert David as he started Emsam when first out you can see how others did. I still want to try it. Have appointment with bioidentical doctor here who will test my hormones and individualize bioidentical hormones for me. His Book or better yet is website is www.carolinahealthspan. Robert L Brown Is the MD who also wrote a book on it. Even depression anxiety might be hormone imbalance take a look at the site. I change my mind all the time a woman's right???? Love Phillipa
