Seroquel and Zyprexa

Posted by nicksmom2495 on March 10, 2009, at 15:09:03

I am looking on information on either of these medications. People have said that they are really good for anxiety and quieting the mind. When I look it up it looks like they are for bipolar (which I am not). Please let me know if you have any experience with these just for anxiety and what the side effects are. I have heard Seroquel can be sedating but is it so sedating that you can't function. I also read that Zyprexa can make you gain a lot of weight. Just looking for info from people who have experience. Thanks!

After a major anxiety (which lead to depression) crash about 3 months ago, I was put back on Zoloft, lithium and Seroquel. The first night I tool the Seroquel (200mg) it was like the weirdest high I had ever had. It also sedated me like crazy (no pun intended). I was taking it to relieve anxiety and help me sleep. It has helped with that. After a week or 2, the heavy sedative feeling after I took the med. started to fade. But yes that first week I was really zoned. Really now I don't much notice it, but still think it helps with the anxiety and that is my major problem.
Hope you find the right med.

All of those things you have heard are true. i hated them (other antipsychotics i tried), and given the side effects they wouldn't be my first, second, or third, choice for anxiety, but some people like them. they're pretty dirty so thats part of why they can have such varying effects.

Isn't Ambilify in the same class of meds? Have you looked into that one? I took Seroquel for a while to quite down the brain some. Made me feel pretty awful.
