Does anyone know what year the generic version of Paxil(Paroxetine) first became available in the US?I know it's a difficult question because I could find no information on what year the generic came out.

By the way,the reason I asked is because I want to try to trace back when my symptoms returned, beacause for many years I took name brand Paxil(the real thing) and it worked well.I'm wondering if the year it came out generic is related to it having stopped working.I've been reading alot here and elsewhere that the name brands often work better.

The earliest approval for the generic in the FDA Orange Book was given to Noven, July 3, 2003. Apotex was licensed on the 30th of that month. There have been many others since then.

Thankyou Larry. So I assume that everyone who took Paxil in the US until mid 2003 were using the name brand only.

I've been using Apotex generics for years. I never had a problem of any sort. I've got faith in them, and not just because they're Canadian.

In the U.S., that would be the case. Canadians had the generic earlier.
