Hey Phillipa,
I wanted to ask you something - you said you were responding to a higher dose of Luvox, but now you can't take it. Why can't you take it - is it that you can't tolerate the side-effects or has your doc reduced it for some reason?

Hyperfocus when luvox first came here about 12 years ago my old pdoc put me on 250mg of luvox and also high doses of ativan and chloral hydrate and the synthroid. I felt relaxed he felt too relaxed and celexa was new and wanted me in a trial I said no so he took me off it gave me celexa and same time lymes founds and felt horrible. So off the celexa after four weeks. could not handle high doses anymore why who knows took 12.5 and treatment for lymes and then changed pdocs she tried paxil and that was low dose then tried the luvox up to 200mg and for two weeks almost felt manic . Then it I guess pooped out and no longer could tolerate high doses and my fear of meds began. I was menopausal and any ad I took couldn't tolerate so ended on luvox. Anyway fast forward. Now could probably tolerate more than 50mg but too scared as even benzos now valium and xanax just make me tired. Maybe it's my age or thyroid I just know feel like dying and can't take anymore changes. Sorry for the negative post. I know your're very desperate. I don't know your history. Just up as can't wake up anymore. But give it a try? Love Phillipa

Actually I was concerned about you and if you were making progress because you've been on the Luvox for a long time. Have you considered going back to an SSRI like Prozac which isn't that bad with regard to side-effects? It's quite possible it may not be your thyroid or lymes or your age to blame, just a matter of finding the right meds. Meds are known to sort of wane and wax, stop working, start working again, no side-effects then significant side-effects, especially if you stop one then switch to another then start again. Is you fear of meds based on phobia or just not liking how they make you feel? I want you to become more active in seeking out treatment - it's impossible for your pdoc to have a grasp of all the expertise and knowledge that are required to heal you. Could you describe specifically what you are suffering from? The anxiety you feel daily could have at its root in OCD. It's also possible that the benzos are making you tired after prolonged use, and if you come off the benzos a anti-depressant might start working for you

Thanks for caring about me when you have your own problems. I do appreciate this. I'm trying to cut down on the benzos now from 15-20mg of valium last two nights 10mg and .5 of xanax. I fear everything. Even changing to different shoes or clothes just wash and wear again. I fear telephones, being alone, but I can leave in the car alone as long as know someone is home. Even washing pups just can't do. I'm a big wimp. But as far as meds go I agree as was going through menopause when trying all the meds. Luvox became my comfort med. One time tried prozac when first out first day wallpapered a foyer had the paper for three years and I wasn't anxious at the time .125 of xanax and beer all I was on. Second day anxiety, third day full panic for the whole day. Flushed the meds and took three days to get over it. I think my biggest fear is that now I'm resistant to all meds. That's the truth. Love Phillipa

Hey Phillipa it sounds to me like the anxiety might be rooted in some sort of OCD - just a layman's guess. You said you responded both to Paxil and initially to Prozac which is interesting because they are both used to treat OCD. What dose of Prozac did you take? Is it possible for you to try a very low dose - like 5 mg. From what I understand because of Prozac's long half-life you can take 10mg every two days for the net effect of 5mg a day

Yes it is possible and thanks for sharing your knowledge. As a matter see pdoc next week and can ask for a trial of prozac. Thanks Hyperfocus.

OOps forgot it was when prozac first came out and was 20mg much too stimulating at that dose. And that is exactly what the doc then begged me to do take 20mg every three days. Now that it comes in weaker strenghts sounds like a winner!!!! Love Phillipa
