Drug to prevent and forget fearful memories?

Posted by seldomseen on March 2, 2009, at 7:52:04

This is kind of an old story, but this new study may suggest that propranolol may have significant therapeutic application in people with PTSD and anxiety.

I'm sorry but this study is not freely available and I can't post a link to it or the article because of copyright etc....

However, one does wonder can a pill make you forget fear, or at least the behavioral expression of fear? There could be some significant reprocussions of this potential discovery.

And, propranolol? It's such an old drug. Wow.

Seldom

I saw the most interesting quote on a tote bag the other day. It read "It's never too late to have a happy childhood". Now I don't usually look to fashion accessories for wisdom, but suddenly that quote reminded me of this study, and this application of propranolol.

I guess what's sticking with me is something like a scary memory something we should "drug out" or something we should "work out".

I don't know the answers to all of your questions Phillipa, I'm sorry. But I do think propranolol may be effective in older memories as well.

Seldom.
