Okay, right now I take Prozac 40mg, Risperdal 1mg, clonazepam 4mg, Xanax .5mg PRN, and Topomax 200mg, daily. I don't even take anywhere near my prescribed dose of clonazepam, maybe .5mg a day on average. But I've been having what oddly feels a bit like dystonia, with the tight, clenched muscles and a fair bit of an agitated feeling, detached from everything. Extra Xanax and clonazepam did not help. I was wondering if it was the Prozac and/or Risperdal? Thing is, I've lowered both my doses of Prozac and Risperdal. I am also having a hard time sleeping too. I can't take any tca's because the slightest norepinephrine effect creates horrific anxiety in me. I'd be dearly thankful for any suggestions/comments and/or insights.
Thanks kindly,
Jay

Are any of the meds new to you? I reacted badly to both Topamax and Risperdal. Also, have you been reducing more than one med at a time..perhaps that may be causing some probs? Just throwing some ideas out there. Hope you feel better soon.

> JayHi Jay,
I'm familiar with a couple of those meds but due to the number and dosing, I think you better get hold of your Doc asap. He/She would probably best be able to tease that apart and come up with the culprit(s).

Of that list I would have to guess that the risperdal is the one. I took risperdal and had stiff muciles.

Risperdal is the likely culprit, but whether this would be happening on its own or in a combination with prozac is not clear. Could be either way.
In my experience with prozac + zyprexa, similar to your cocktail, anytime I changed dose...especially lowering it...I had sore tight muscles, mostly in the calves, that would last from 4 to 6 weeks after the dosage change.
If it wasn't happening before the dose change, but is happening after the dose change, then the dose change is the most likely cause. If so, all you can do is wait it out, probably 4 to 6 weeks. In the meantime, your doc should be told.
It is my opinion that this is a neuromuscular thing somehow tied into dopamine. Both prozac and risperdone are influencing dopamine. Once that steady homeostasis of dopamine is unsettled from a dosage change, the neuromuscular stuff is what shows up during a readjustment phase.
Maybe a faint weak form of neuroleptic malignant syndrome perhaps. In its true form, of course, it comes with fever and pretty serious stuff that lands you in the emergency room. I just think the muscle tightness/soreness is somewhere in that realm, just more benign and weaker. Yet still very worrying and uncomfortable. I know.

I will hopefully see my doctor Monday evening, as we are trying to crush the nasty dysphoric anxiety and pull me out of depression. I have my little burst...where it is like.."Ya, this is cool!"...so I am trying to extend those moments..lol. (Aren't we all?..heh.) Thanks kindly once again..
