Low dose Geodon: How does it feels ?

Posted by Marty on January 2, 2009, at 12:35:59

Anyone would share how it feels ? If you do please specify your dosage.

Since my brain seems to love 5-HT2a and 5-HT2c antagonism and that low dose Geodon seems to do about just that without significant DA antagonism
it may well be good for me.

Yes, I am and it goes well. Then thing is that I'd like to try a stronger 5-HT2c antagonist than Agomelatine, but I don't feel like trying Prozac.

I wish you friend will come here to share his experience with me.

What feelings and/or improvments do you get from the effects on those receptors ?

I have tried 20mg of geodon and it made me feel rather wierd and kind of 'drunk'... a bit light headed and out of it. I tried 80mg just the other day just to see what would happen and felt like crap, was similar to the 20 but with the added bonus of the horrid feeling i get from dopamine antagonism.

Interestingly i recently started prozac as it was the last option for AD's as i've been on all the rest and i havn't been feeling the best on it... so i may have the opposite reaction to what you have which is why i'm wondering what you personally get from 5ht2c and 5ht2a antagonism.

Ahah.. sorry Phillipa but I meant "I wish YOUR friend would come here share his Geodon experience with us.. on the thread" ;) .. my fault.

That said if you feel like it one day, you're also invited to the party and you know it ;)

Hi Mav,

> What feelings and/or improvments do you get from >the effects on those receptors ?

Anxiolytic, antidepressant, improved sleep (anti 5-HT2a), nootropic (memory, executive functions etc), improved sex (mainly by being antidepressant without being anti-sex like the SRI's and NRI's and by being pro-DA) .. that's about it. Without much side effects compared to other antidepressants based on reuptake inhibition or MAOIs. But yeah.. it's not for everyone as we don't have all the same needs whatever which DX we may or may not share.

> I have tried 20mg of geodon and it made me feel rather wierd and kind of 'drunk'... a bit light headed and out of it.

How long did you stay on the 20mg ? Did a part of the feeling reminded you of Prozac ? At that dosage, did you felt any significant Anti-DA effects ? Also, any side effects to report ?

As DX matters, what's yours ?

> I tried 80mg just the other day just to see what would happen and felt like crap, was similar to the 20 but with the added bonus of the horrid feeling i get from dopamine antagonism.

Horrid is the word. Anti-DA is just effing awful. For the one who doesn't need such a thing as 'less DA', it's a little death in a pill.

Compared to the SSRI's, what was the difference ? If you tried Citalopram or Escitalopram, try comparing with that.

Nah it didn't remind me of prozac at all... although iam still only on 20mg of prozac. (EDIT)The godeon i was on was actually 40mg for 2 days then 60mg for a night and then i stopped it when i couldnt even make it down the hallway to get to the bathroom during the night.
The thing for me though is an increase in noradrenaline gives me bad orthostatic hypotension... so it was probably the godeon doing what it's meant to.

I had written the above with mention of 20mg of godeon but i just thought i would take 20mg and see exactly how it makes me feel only to realise the pack actually starts at 40 mg (the doc gave me a titration pack, it starts at 40mg for 2 nights and works up to 80mg)
I've just split a capsule open and devided one up to aprox 20mg so i'll see how it feels :)

Depression and social phobia.

Well it just feels weaker at the moment... ssri's space me out like a zombie and cause sexual dysfunction... on the prozac i've been feeling suicidal still so it doesn't feel like much of an ssri/antidepressant. Interestingly though the prozac seems to be improving my ADD like symptoms... normally a 2 hour tv show takes me 15 minutes to watch... now i can actually sit through without my finger on the fastfaward button or having to do a million things at once.

Well this is interesting to say the least.... it's been 90 minutes since taking 20mg of godeon.. i took my blood pressure 3 times before hand and each time was around 120/78... now its risen to 150/90.
But..... i feel so calm and relaxed.. it's wonderful... it reminds me of taking reboxetine but without the BP drop (reboxetine also causes a whole different problem for me so i can't really stay on it) i don't know if it's causing any sexual function changes though.

Yep. When i woke up though i felt a little drained.. so i'm not sure if it was the godeon wearing off as it has a very short half life and neds to be taken twice a day.

Mav,

Did you tried it a second time to confirm the effect ? I'm quite excited by what you report and I'm trying Sub-20mg Geodon tomorow to see if it will boost the Agomelatine effect.

I tried but didn't notice any effect the second time.. however i only had 80mg tablets left so i opened the capsule and tried to put just 20mg back in but i may have gotten it wrong by a long way... will have to ask my doc for some 20mg tablets to test it properly.

It seems to me from observing others that the dosage range of Geodon that is most effective to treat depression is 40-80mg. Sometimes, more is less. A great deal of anxiety can occur when taking Geodon at dosages as low as 20mg. If you take a higher dosage, the anxiety disappears and is replaced by feelings of wellness.

I'm interested to see others are trying low doses of Geodon. I took my first 20 mg dose this morning and I believe the dose is much too high for me. The sedation was incredible. I was practically staggering and I slept most of the day. I'm going to break open a capsule and try an evening dose of about 5 mg tomorrow night.
