I have been taking 60mg Cymbalta for the last 6 weeks and have noticed significant improvements in my physiological symptoms of depression/anxiety(racing heart, headaches, peripheral body calmness, etc). However, I have been monitoring my blood pressure and it is now up to about 138/88. While this is not seriously high, I am currently taking 10mg of lisinopril which is obviously not enough to keep this in check. I seem to derive the most positive effects from NE affecting drugs. However, many of these tend to increase my blood pressure. I had taken beta blockers (Atenolol) for a number of years and these cause cognitive clouding. I am looking for other options that will allow me to continue taking NE affecting meds and prevent the increased blood pressure. Would a blood pressure med such as Clonidine or Tenex be a potential solution? Any ideas are appreciated.

I think it's great that you have found a med that works. Have you considered excercise aerobic? Might lower BP? Just a thought. Phillipa

Yes, actually I exercise regularly both cardiovascular and weight training as well as take fish oil consistently in attempt to prevent this. I am now looking for other pharmaceutical routes that may be helpful.

The NE-effecting meds seem to do the most for my depression. I was started on 10 mg of lisinopril years ago for blood pressure, and it has since been upped to 20 mg. (Plus, I also take the beta blocker Bystolic/nebivolol, which you may want to try to see if it doesn't give the cognitive clouding.) But back to the lisinopril, I think I recall seeing on my grandfather's med list that he's on 40 mg of lisinopril, so you may have lots of room to move up with it.

I would suggest asking for a BP med that doesn't work through catecholamines, because something like guanfacine might reduce antidepressant response.

Thank you for all of the replys. I am going to try a calcium channel blocker to control the blood pressure instead of the ACE Inhibitor (Lisinopril).
I agree with staying away from meds that work through the catecholamines as beta blockers, even at low doses cause significant cognitive dulling for me.
