Ritalin help, side effects, warnings

Posted by cfactor on December 29, 2008, at 17:24:54

Doctor prescribe me some ritalin, 20mg, but told me to try half first and expriement a bit.

I read on one site saying side effect that are dangerous.

One thing i notice, is I hear some ringing in my ears.

A website told me a sign of serious problem.
is this ringing in my ears.

is this any concern?

First time taking ritalin, only took half, which is 10mg, it too high of dose for me?

Should I ask for addrell instead of ritalin?

thanks

Hi, and welcome to Psycho Babble. :)

The dangerous side effects of Ritalin would be heart related (high BP and possibility of stroke). Are you using the Sustained Release version? I would continue with 10 mg for a while and see how it goes.

Personally, I cannot take ritalin because it makes me crash hard after it wears off. Adderall XR worked better from me in that respect. Both come with the same side effects warnings.

Don't give up on the Ritalin yet as it may take some getting used to it. If after two weeks you still have ringing in the ears then you should consider changing meds.

Best of luck to you.

Maxime

I started with 5mg tab 3xday. I originally stopped taking after 12 years. I found it to be safe, help me stay on task and get things done. I did crash a little towards the end of the day, if you have other responsibilities you may want to talk to Doc about that. I ended, after 12 years at 5mg tab 5xday, and frequently didn't use that. I loved it. I could take it when I needed it or leave it if I wanted to relax. I only d/c'd it cause of an A/D I'm trying. No w/d, maybe a little fatigue. I wouldn't ever take 10 mg and you may want to start with 2 1/2 mg 3x day.

I'd try the lower dose of Ritalin first, I've had both and Much preferred Ritalin. If ringing continues to be problem, I'd get that checked, but at a smaller dose, I doubt it will be.
